Do I have HSV2 or not?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I recently tested positive for HSV-2 (with a 1.29 index). I've been nothing short of devastated by this news, but in recent days I've been doing some research that's making me question my diagnosis. For one, my index count is VERY low (any lower would be considered a negative), as well as my symptoms have been atypical and constant (burning, discomfort after urinating, but no bumps, blisters, or redness) with no gradual decrease. In addition, I've been dealing with these symptoms almost constantly for the past 6 weeks with no reprieve. Does this describe anyone? I'm really beginning to feel I received a false positive and am misdiagnosed. Please help sad

there is some infections, possibly e,coli that can cause UTI, or burning urniation.

Was it the IgG test? If so, take it again in a few weeks. If the number goes up considerably, then you have a new infection. Did you have a sexual encounter not long before your symptoms started?

It was the IgG test. I've done continuous research that seems to suggest it's highly unreliable. My boyfriend and I were together in December (I'm currently out of state for school) and my symptoms didn't come up til mid-March. I still have them almost 8 weeks later with no let up. We were apart for a little while last summer and he had oral sex with a girl one time, but he's already asked her if she's been tested for everything and she has. Prior to that when we were still together I never had any issues.

He's never experienced any symptoms, but he'll be getting tested next week as well.

2.5 months after your last encounter is a very long time for a first outbreak. Most occur within a week or two at most. Also, herpes outbreaks don't last for 8 weeks. Usually a first outbreak is anywhere between 2-4 weeks max, and a week for recurrences, and you would expect at least a sore or two.

Although your test indicates a low positive for HSV2, I'm not sure that that's what is causing your issues. If you have ever had HSV1 (with or without cold sores), that could trigger a false positive for HSV2. Did you get tested for HSV1 as well, or do you have a history of cold sores? I would see a doctor about your issue. Could be a persistent UTI that requires antibiotic treatment.

My thoughts exactly. When we got back together our first time having sex was in December. I didn't start having these issues til mid-March, and again, with no break at all.

I was tested for HSV 1/2 antibodies and my HSV1 count was VERY high (31.00), which I wasnt surprised to see, given the fact I've had cold sores off and on for many years.

My OB/GYN prescribed me a 10-day supply of Valtrex. I'm on day 7 but so far, I haven't seen it really alleviate my symptoms at all.
