Do I have it?
Posted , 3 users are following.
Before my symptoms started I was a happy 28 year old lad.
Initially I have been diagnosed with Oesophigitis but Im sure there is more. I have been on omeprozole with the dose increasing gradually. I have been on 40mg esomeprozole twice a day for 3 months now and although the problem seems a bit better these are my other symptoms
Difficulty eating food
chest pain/ back pain
Weight loss
Feeling of food stuck in my throat
Short of breath and panick attacks
Always feeling tired and down
I have asked about a Barium swallow and they do not believe I need one. I feel really stuck at the moment and being the father of a 1 year old son I want to make sure Im around for him. I dont think its Cancer but it does go through your mind as Im sure you all agree.
Thank you for sharing your experiences, it has made me realise Im not the only one going through this, although I wish you all were not.
Any help or views would be greatly appreciated.

You've gotta take what people suggest on here with a pinch of salt .... on the internet no one is an authority.
However, I can relate to the very brief descriptions of 4 of the 6 symptoms you list.
For me .....
Difficulty in eating food/Food getting stuck - This was really about severe pain (eye watering) with food getting lodged part way down, and in many cases the need to bring that food back up.
Chest/Back Pain - Mainly in bed, in the early hours, cramp in the chest sometimes also in the back. Nothing would alleviate the pain other than icy cold water but even then the pain could last anything from 20mins to 20 hours!!!
Weight Loss - I lost around 2 stone in 6 months and became a really unhealthy sight - way too thin. When eating becomes unpleasant the appetite soon disappears.
If you're not happy with the diagnosis keep pushing until you are. It may be that the Doc manages to convince you it's not achalasia. If you don't reach common ground I'd suggest getting second opinion.
Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. My experience is - many years of increasingly worse symptoms - food getting stuck, pain, so you don't want to try eating in case it hurts and sticks. My Gp diagnosed all sorts of things - then sent me to hospital for barium swallow and then an endoscopy ( by then I was on liquidised foods). I take Omeprazole and had my first dilation in the summer - things improved a lot.
Persevere with your GP and ask if it would be ppossible to have some tests at the hospital - they will diagnose what is wrong.
Hope all goes well.
