Do I have mastoiditis? Constant pain :(

Hi

Please can someone help me to find out what could be wrong with me as I feel I keep getting misdiagnosed.

I was diagnosed supposedly with TMJ about 8 years ago and ive been taking various antidepressants as I was told that would help with the nerve damage in my face, it's never really helped though, I've also been taking ibuprofen, codeine and other painkillers over the years, also I've had many courses of antibiotics.

For along time I've also suffered with a blocked nose and I was only recently diagnosed with a deviated septum.

I had a motorbike accident about 15 years ago and it was not long after this that I noticed alot of pains.

I was also going through a seperation around this time and I just put the pain down to stress and depression.

I first went to the doctor as I was getting pain in and around my ear and i noticed my earlobe would swell and stick out, I can't remember what they told me now but I think I was just given antibiotics?

I've been reading up about mastoiditis as I have had pain on the bone at the back of my ear for many years now but I always just thought that was down to stress.

I also have a pea size lump behind my ear right at the back and it's painful sometimes but I can only feel it when I pull my ear to the side, I noticed this many years ago but just always thought it was part of my ear and normal but after I've been reading things online I'm not sure?

I've also read about facial palsy as my face as felt like it's pulling down constantly and numb not long after the accident.

These are a list of problems I have:-

Deviated septum

Blocked nostril

Postnasal drip

Sore throat

Facial palsy

Jaw clicking

Pain in jaw muscles

Pain in cheekbone

Headaches

Tender head

Painful neck and shoulders

Ear ache

Ear lobe sticks out

Pain back of ear

Lump on ear at back

For many years I've just thought all these things were down to stress and depressionbut now I'm not sure?

I've lived with this pain for 15 years now and it's always there but some days can be worse than other.

I wasnt too bad the other day and I went for a walk and the next day my ear was hurting, fullness inside, I holded my nose and blew and my ear popped but it was so painful sad also my nose was completely blocked, my face was hurting more than usual and my throat was very sore, this happens quite alot.

All this has affected my mental health over the years as sometimes my face hurts so much that I find it hard to speak because my face and lip will twitch alot and I feel stupid and embarrassed when talking to People.

The pain has caused me to overdose a few times in the past and recently I tried to hang myself as I had enough of the pain and the way it's making me feel.

I'm just sick of doctors and specialists constantly fobbing me off, I went to the ENT and they prescribed me nose spray even though I told them I've used it so many times and it doesn't help.

What I'm thinking and from what I've read is my deviated septum is causing some kind of infection in my nose, sinuses or eustachian tube and this is then causing a constant ear infection and it has now caused mastoiditis which is also causing my facial palsy, could I be right?

I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced same/similar problems.

Thanks x

We share a lot of the same symptoms, yours sounds worse. I had a CT Scan and it showed mastoiditis. I, too am having a difficult time with doctors just ignoring it. I have gone to about 7 doctors so far and each of them like basicallydont want to deal with it.

its crazy. i have severe pain many symptoms as you listed.

finally jumped up and down enough and went to the hospital. they gave me antibiotics.

your first step is DEMANDING a ct scan or mri.

    demanding immediate help for it.

left untreated it can be fatal.

do not wait for them to care. trust me. you have to push them to face it. I even have the scans to prove it and they still say oh dont worry about it and attribute the pain to an old accident. its ridiculous. I think half these ENTs are on drugs.

You have to manage your own care otherwise you will die. Google other stories will pop up of people dying of this after the hospital lets them go home.
