Do I have Pancreatitis?

Hi,

I am very confused. I suffer already for a longer time of acute periods of pain, always starting in the night and finishing the next morning, if never happened. It is a pain in the middle (heart area) of my abdomen spreading till my back. It is an unbearable pain, I can only position myself in the foetus position. Mostly starting after a heavy or fatty meal. After a while I normally also vomit (normally one time). After that there comes flatus and rather fatty stool. I have a niece with Cystic fibrosis, which can also be a cause of being more likable of getting chronic Pancreatitis, I read. (due to Genetic mutations) When I read this forums, I really recognize what everybody writes.

Last night I had it again and went directly to the hospital to let it test. They took blood and made an Ultrasound of all my organs. They said my blood and organs were OK and there is nothing to worry about. But I still have the periods of this horrible pain.

My question: Do you recognize my symptoms and could a pancreatitis be overseen in hospital??

I am really confused. On one side beiing happy of the positive diagnosis, but i still suffer, which nobody can explains.

Thanks for helping me!

      Hi, anth 33881,

I not really lost weight, but I can really eat everything and not getting fat at all. They always ask me why I stay so thin, while eating so much. This can declares it also. Good tip to go to a specialised place. There they know better and not focussing on the whole body. I am pretty sure I have it. And such a pain can not come from nothing! Was it your first time ?

Really, I read it everywhere, STOP drinking, that is indeed bad for the Pankreas. I never really drink. But we have cystic Fibrosis in the family, which could be a riskfactor of Chronic Pankratitis. I am 25 .

I notice that it always starts after fatty, heavy meals (once for example I ate too much nuts and I got it)

Hi, i suffered with servre necrotting pancritius earlier this year.my pain started in my back as the pancreas sits behind the spine. My case was overlooked and I was sent home to then return 24 hours and end up in ITU (my case was very serious and not too common).the only way I could get slightly more comftable was to lean right over!  Your blood work should show pancritatic enzymes although mine never wAs never checked properly at first. If I were you and you get the pain again go back demand all blood tests and a CT scan, you know when something isn't right with your body! Pancritius is nasty and can worsen quickly.xx

I had a morphine pump for the pain, central lines for the drugs, lung drains, stomache drains, NG feeding tubes the works!! I'm still waiting to have my gallbladder removed as that was the cause (gallstone trapped in pancritatic duct) and my psydocysts drained (a side effect of panciritius). I'm currantly on a fat free and dairy free diet. I feel 100% now smile xx

`Wow , super: this really gives me hope! I will start focussing on my food already now. I am willing to try everything that is preventing this horrible pain, and the complications of Chronic Pancreatitis. What is exactly dairy free diet?

I hope the diet calms you pain! At first no dairy what so ever while it was all I flamed but now I can eat low fat dairy such as skimmed milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurt!! Try not to eat any fatty foods and limit the dairy to low fat!!x

Hi found your thread! To be honest I don't no anything about chronic only acute, I doubt they could have got it wrong from tests, but I'm no doctor! From what I'm aware the pain in the back is a symptom as with anything not everyone gets the same symptoms. You can get serval attacks of acute pancritius I have had a minor one since being out of ITU. So I would defo question them on the acute/chronic!! And be great full your in no pain with your back, believe me it's horrific!! But question the medics, they may do more tests :-)

Hi all! Thanks a lot! I went to the doctor and he said it is very probable that it is Pankreatitis. I also have the fatty Stool. It really looks like it. I will have soon an MRT and other Ultrasound and Stoolexamination.

Thanks a lot, because of you all i kept on resarching!

And anth: I read a lot that sometimes there is no backpain accompied with a pancreatitis. It does not have to be I think. It are all the symptoms together: The stool, the typicall pain, wight loss,... BUt neither I am a doctor!!
