Do I have Pancreatitis?

Posted , 3 users are following.

since September 2015 I have been experiencing pain below my left rib that travels to my lower back and sometimes to my shoulders. The pain happen after I eat. It used to be about 30 minutes after I ate but now it can be about 15 minutes when the pain starts. I had a blood test and the Amylase levels where 197. My Gastro consultant refuses to believe I have Pancreatitis as the CT and ultrasound testa were clear. He has given me a diagnosis of irritable bowel which I refuse to accept. Can anyone tell me if the think I have Pancreatitis?

The diagnosis of CP is one of the most difficult to give because you can still have CP with a normal CT scan and normal serum levels. It can take years for the pancreas to show abnormalities. The first clinical presentation is pain and doctors cannot give a diagnosis based on pain alone. I hope you don't have CP. I wouldn't worry about it now. You can have an EUS but even an EUS can be inconclusive, especially in the early stages.

    Hi Sharon

I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms, and am totally at my wits end. Barely eat - although I get hunger pangs - because I know it will cause me pain which takes my breath away.

Saw my GP and told him I thought I had a problem with my pancreas, but he said he didn't, but didn't say why......instead put me on fluoxetine, sent me for bloods which I am waiting for results and organised a scan which I still am waiting for the date,  In the meantime I struggle to get through each day because of the discomfort and the effect the worry is having on my mental health.

Wishing you all the best x

I am going through the exact same thing as you are. I think I am having CP but my GI thinks it's anxiety mixed with IBS and Non Alcholic Fatty Liver Disease

They will not even think about Pancreatitis because i dont smoke or drink. They have tridme with Buscopan and Mebeverine for the IBS that i dont think i have and they made no difference. I am still waiting on the results of the blood test to see what they are going to do but i am not accepting a diagnosis of IBS. They are sending me to a Dietician to see about cutting foods out that trigger the pain but that would be all foods.
