Do I have varacose veins?

Some months ago I noticed that the skin on my left ankle was very rough and red. I spoke to my doctor about it who said I had dermatisis but he had no idea what causes it and that I should apply moisturiser and a topical steroid cream when it flares up.

Since then I had the same problem on my right ankle. I also noticed the following:

- Part of my legs appears blue and veins are visible on my feet (although not sure if it's just because I'm looking for veins)

- On my heel I have always had calluses but recently these have started to feel very rough. I've been rubbing it down which smooths it again but I've been doing this every two days.

- Some dull pain in my lower legs and feet.

I spoke to the doctor who felt for a pulse on my leg and told me I had perfectly healthy feet, repeated that he had no idea why I've got dermatisis and that blue legs was something that everyone gets.

I'm just thinking v. veins because every time I google dermatisis of the ankles I get results for v. veins. If it is should I go back to the doctor and insist that this is looked into, or is it safe just to carry on as normal unless it gets worse? I searched on Google images for v. veins and saw some quite obviously enlarged veins, I have nothing like that.

I had bogth legs Separately stripped 10 years ago both went well but very sore and as you all say leg stocking very uncomfortable and too tight on top of leg.and took 3 month to get back to normal but I did resume work after 2 weeks.small scars are still visable

I have just had foam sclerothorapy in one of the worse legs as the veins had now returned bigger than ever and due to the fact I had a bad reaction tothe general anasthetic it was considered that I was not suitable for surgery this time. It was a bit painful and I had to go home on a bus .It is now 3 week later and although I have brown patches where the veins bulged and still feel a sharp ping in the veins that have been treated. I have also bruses which are still very sore to touch inthe same areas. I still would recomend it as I dont want to have general surgery again I was so ill afterwards. some people have reactions some dont.

I have to go back in January 2015 to get the other leg done wish me luck

My apologies I sent this to you instead of Adam07870 but still worth watching as you might get some re-occurences of any dry skin conditions.

    hello,

Doctors are always mis-diagnosing this symptom of varicose veins. It's most likely caused by them and the quicker you get to see a specialist the better -- insist on it as it's your skin breaking down due to blood being directly close to your skin and not in it's veins.

I had this and was sent to numerous 'skin' doctors and none of them had any idea it was because of varicose veins.

It does sound like it but do get it seen to quickly.

Here's a link to a description and a photo of what it  might look like, my own were a little darker but this is a good link: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Eczema-%28varicose%29-/Pages/Introduction.aspx.

Hope you get it seen to quickly these days with that you might only need some foam injection to stop the mis-functioning vein being fed blood. An ultra-sound scan will show it all up - easy.

    regards

    WR.

ps.. don't trust G.P.s to know everything ----
