Do i need to give fluoxetine longer to work?

Posted , 8 users are following.

I know everyone is different, but how long do i need to give fluoxetine to work fully? I'm on week 13 of 20mg and although my anxiety is a bit better i feel like i'm just wishing my life away while waiting to feel better. Does anyone have any positive advice (pretty please).

hi bazza, well done you for getting to the dentist, bet you're so glad its out of the way!!

Can't believe i got my dates mixed up, how bloody stupid of me, i was all set for telling them i wanted my dose upping as well. I've been pretty up and down still mood wise but my anxiety is at an all time low which is great, so the tablets must be doing something, its just taking forever!

Anyway i'll try again next wednesday, and i hope your mood picks up really soon!! keep in touch xxxx

hi lindsey i wish i could say the same about the anxiety mines not good at the moment .have been to see my psychiatrist this afternoon hes upped my dose to 60 mg but he didnt indicate why i had gone down dont think they know it seems to be down to each person.just wish thy could give a little encouragement if upping the tabs will make a difference i suppose its trial and error but that doesnt help us suffering i still dont think thy understand if they havent had it.bet u cant wait till next wednesday it seems to have gone on forever for u.some say it takes at least 3 months before u notice a difference im on my 12 wk so heres hoping things change for the better i know ive said this before but i cant remember it being so long working last time i was on it unless my memory is up the shoot.hope u have a good weekend no doubt ill have a lie in steves golfing unless of course i wake up feeling really good and want to do something with my daughters dont think the weathers going to be very good so perhaps not .speak soon xx

hi bazza, hope you woke up feeling ok!! and you're right about the doctors, unless they've actually been through it they don't really know what its like and can only give advice the best they can, and like you say, everyone is different.

I just wish my mood would lift now, its so hard and frustrating isn't it!!!

If the doctors would explain that it may take months rather than weeks it might have helped me a bit, but when they say you should be feeling better after 6 weeks it makes you doubt everything which doesn't help!

Roll on wednesday (again), i'm bloody telling them this time!!!

Have you started on 60mg? please let me know how you get on, and i hope its that extra boost you need, i suppose i shouldn't have waited so long to up my dose, but i worry so much about everything and kept putting it off in the hope i'd wake up one morning feeling ok, stupid really isn't it!!

      Speak soon xxx

hi again lindsey its me again i started on 60mg yesterday so heres hoping things get better.i ask the psychiatrist if i would have the side effects again like last time he wasnt sure said something about it being in my body a while so it might not be so badi will put up with it if it could guarantee that the tabs will work its such a waiting game and i dont like it.i know what u mean about increasing it is a worry but i honestly dont think your dose is high enough after allthis time or it would have made a difference.was scouting the web and found an item about duloxetine ads have u heard of them i have but dont know anyone on them do u.it said it was good for depressive disorder and has the highest probabilityof remission if i dont get much joy from the prozac i might see if i can try them it didnt say the side effects were any worse but will look into it more its surprising what u can find when your browsing do u search to see what u come across it sometimes make me see things a bit differently u know what they say knowledge is power and we sure need to know as much as we can about this complaint so they cant pullthe wool over our eyes.didnt get up feeling any brighter today how about u.be in touch soon.xx

hi bazza, went to the doctors and explained how i felt and how worried i was about upping the dose so they've given me a tablet form one that i can split in 2 so i can take half alongside my other one so it amounts to 30mg and see how i get on with that, i think i'm happier increasing in smaller doses as i'm terrified of any side effects or my anxiety going through the roof again, i'm such a coward aren't i!!!!

How has your day been? xxx

hiya pleased they have increased it for u lets hope u see a difference did they say they would up it again if its still iffy.u have been taking it quite a lot longer than me im in my 12th week but they started me on 20mg then upped it after 3wksto 40 mg i really hoped i wouldnt have to go up again but the 40 only worked two wks perhaps i thought it would work and i would stay up but reading on here it seems to take longerthan 3 mths to work im sure they have changed the ingredients i just want to get back to where iwas 3wks ago then i will be happy.do u feel any happier now they have upped it.i started taking 60 mg last thursday and feel slightly more positive today so maybe next wk u could be seeing a difference it might happen quicker for u perhaps just the nudge u need and everyone is different in how quick it affects them and by the way u arnt a coward u went back to the gps it takes a lot of guts to face them when all u want to do is hide away.steve and i have been to my sisters this afternoon but im still very panicky when im out but it was ok u see i dont go anywhere i dont have to when i feel down.havent heard from paul or anthony for a few days have u.when are u back at the gps im back at psychiatrists in about a month.speak soon im rooting for u.xxx

hi lindsey wondered if u was ill ive picked up a cold ear ache etc did think it could be the increase in dose so stayed in bed all day sunday and i could sleep all day and still sleep at night perhaps its just a coincident so i could be wrong apart from that nothings changed muchstill get panicky when i have to go out im at the hygenist on thurs i might not go yet taking one day at a time.read on another site that it can take 6 wks when u up your dose if u have been on meds before apprently your brain remembers thats all i needed to read it seems like forever now and its not 2 wks till friday for me.how are u doing have u started your increase yet have u had anymore side effectspaul messaged me last night hes doing ok now and feels things are working for him at last so thats good news we need to here it could be us next.cant wait im so impatient want it to happen like yesterday and stay there.speak soon.bazza.xxx

hi bazza, yes i started the new dose last week, i don't think i've had any side effects as of yet unless thats whats contributed to keeping me in bed the last 2 days feeling like poo!! My cold is much better now thank god, are you feeling any better?

Hope i've not got to wait another 5 weeks for them to kick in, its taking forever, its rubbish isn't it!!

Glad paul is doing ok, at least one if is!!

Fingers crossed we will soon, and don't worry too much about thursday, one day at a time!!! take care and speak soon xxx

lindsey hi yes i do feel better thanks still got blocked nose but otherwise not bad.i cancelled my hygenist app for tomorrow didnt feel up to going.cant say anything else has improved though mores the pity.im getting more and more impatient as time goes on its damn well taking forever u can understand people losing heart when nothing seems to be changing.how are u getting on postaldogg any better than us two have u had much improvement yet or are u still waiting for it to start working properly.i went up to 60mg 12days ago but havent seen any change as yet.i was telling lindsey i read on another web sight that if uve been on meds before which i have they can take even longer to work because your brain remembers u took them before.didnt want to read that but we all know these meds affect us differently.keep in touch both of u speak soon.xxx
