Do meds work?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I don't know if you notice lately but more and more people are getting anxiety out of no where ( like me).the more I talk to people, look on forums and talk to people it seems like either the meds don't works or it don't help at all.

People say that the meds take mouths to work but that don't make any sense to me, ain't it just chemical is the brain? All these years and we can stop a chemical in our brains??

More and more people are getting diagnosed with anxiety seem like out of know where ( I'm one of them) I know exactly of it feel and it is sooooo bad, but when I like a "new progress on anxiety" they seem to still not found any solution.

More anxiety medications are being prescribed than ever before, and yet, the anxiety epidemic has only gotten worse.

What is going on is it in the air? What we eat? The internet? Ikd but I hate it. Please reply on what you think and what your experience been like.

    Hi alsean,

My thoughts  exactly .  I think there’s a lot of pressures now probably compared to how it was years ago.

Everything’s technology & not always for the better.

There is a lot more stuff going into our foods and More pollution. Probably all plays a big part?

Think though probably years ago , people that suffered from mental illness was too afraid to speak up.

So in that sense we are lucky as people are more aware of mental illnesses. I don’t really have any experience with the medication so can’t comment on that.

We are not alone. And we can beat this!

Everyday I have a different symptoms make me think it something about todays world.

I don't take meds ( I'm just started to take GABA natural supplements) but everyday I wake up thinking what will it be today. Somedays are better then others, like today was a ok day, maybe because of the supplements ikd.

Your GP can arrange CBT to discuss your Anxiety and generally you will be given coping Techniques and medication. Medication only in a way suppresses the Anxiety. The sufferer also has a chance to help themselves to control their fears.

I found the main may of controlling Anxiety is to know yourself and your body. The problem is many people become sensitized to their bodies and anticipate they are seriously ill. We become so fixated our Anxiety can become all consuming and the Anxiety Patient needs to consider the reasons for their problem.

In some cases a visit to a Chemist may sort out the problem, this may not happen because an alarm has rung in the Patients head and the problem with the becomes urgent when the urgency becomes irrational. Hence not been able to relate to the specialist and their test results

I understand to explain above may be lacking and people with Anxiety, including myself will be unable to square the circle of this disability.

All I can say is we need to responsible and make informed decisions  regarding our Health, related to Anxiety

Meds can often make the situation worse by interacting with each other. They can be evaluated by bringing them to a trusted registered pharmacist.

You are given medication to control your Anxiety, you need to give the medication time to work well.

Your script given by your GP looks at the medications you take for contraindications, we are all different and the medication you take and it is doing well for you will be a problem for someone else.

A chemist can explain medications on your script, Generally the Chemist refers to your GP when it comes to side effects, this is because your GP knows your health concern history. You bow to that decision.

If you feel the medication is causing you problems, generally you will read the instruction paper that came with the medications. the

Generally in my case I now try and treat something like just say a cold by visiting the Chemist they will recommend something to treat that cold, the same applies if you pull or twist yourself, the chemist would advice some form of pain medication. If it does not clear you go and see your GP

I'm taking natural supplements (GABA) and I'm praying that will work. It just amazed me how these medicine still can't help us, and how little progress we made...I just hope the doctor's can find a key solution quick.

Medication on a GP Script  is there to give assistance to control your condition.

When push comes to shove it is mostly up to the patient when on medication to complement those with coping techniques, medications are not the be all to control your  Anxiety it is the patient who needs to educate  themselves on ways to help themselves and understand the sensitivities they have regarding their body.

I could probably write a book as response to your excellent questions, alsean.

Human beings were not meant to work as a receiving device for electronic data input-but we all spend HOURS a day in front of our laptops, on our smart phones, tablets and whatever. Texting, emails, skype, you name it. It is all stressful and a type of stress evolution has not really prepared us for.

I deactivated my Facebook and Twitter accounts because I was literally getting upset and angry when reading some of the stuff. I was tying myself up in knots over a virtual world, think about it. And the anger is not a healthy type-caveman got angry/scared and killed the cave bear. Modern man gets angry and an impolite Twitter and there is no outlet-you keep on internalizing it until you blow up one day, or have a breakdown.

I was experiencing visual Migraines for a many years. Brought it up to my Opthamologist and she recommended I stop eating non-natural foods (anything with preservatives in it) and drinking diet soda. I stopped and the visual migraines went away. I kid you not. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the unhealthy things most folks eat and drink contribute to their anxiety and depression. This is why I advocate attacking depression/anxiety on all fronts-Therapy, medication, good diet, good exercise and good sleep/rest.

Per your comment on medication, I have been on Paxil for over 25 years-since I was diagnosed with clinical depression at 38 years old. Paxil is great for beating depression, less effective against Anxiety (but it helps a little). Most SSRI's are the same, great against depression and less so against Anxiety.

The benzodiazepine medications are good against anxiety, but they are habit forming and you can become 'addicted'. Most folks have them around, but only use them in event of a real panic attack or serious anxiety attack. Doctors are becoming less prone to prescribe them due to their abuse and addiction properties.

      Thank for replying

It just make now sense we human claim to know so mush ,how the universe started, matters and atoms, lasik, finding a planet million on light years away, black hole, makeing our own plants, traveling to Mars and everything.

Think of the things "science" have done and what they claim we did and can do!

We can make robot legs and arms, drones, small chips in the brains.

.....but these people after all this technology advance society we can not stop our brains from producing a certain chemical? You mean nothing?

Brain surgery? Or just killing that one chemical of completely.

If the doctor told me " we can stop your anxiety but the results of that will be that you will never make that chemical ever again and you will never fell anxiety even when you is in danger?) I WOULD KILL THAT CHEMICAL SO QUICK! I can live with out felling anxious but not the other way around.
