Do most of you with OLP/LP have gut and digestion problems?

I believe i may have methane SIBO and am going to test for it.  However if i am positive i will need to start a course of 2 antibiotics (rifaximin and neomycin) and i am concerned that the drugs may trigger an OLP falre.  Anyone have any experience with this? thank so much

Yes, Jason. I do. I have Microscopic Colitis (MC). If you Google it, the microscopic slide pictures of it look identical to Lichen Planus. They are different somehow I'm sure but, to the untrained eye, to me, they are identical. I've never heard of the illness to which you are speaking. My particular form of MC is LYMPHOCYTIC COLITIS caused by the same wayward white blood cells that attack us elsewhere. Interesting to note is that MC attacks the mucous membranes in the INTESTINES. There must be a connection with LP especially Oral. Also, for years (decades) really, I had inflamed swollen sinuses which sometimes caused inflamed bronchial tubes and pneumonia. Horrible, horrible headaches and chest pains. No doctor could figure it out. I had to take massive Antibiotics as so much mucous would become trapped. When I finally was diagnosed for the horrible diarrhea constantly, the medicine I take for the MC stopped the SINUS AND HEADACHES !!! After decades of suffering and horrible work attendance, one or two infections a month, sometimes causing pneumonia, I have had only two sinus problems in 2015 and neither one serious!!! I've had wonderful Good Luck benefits from prescription drugs rather than disadvantages. The medicine is LIALDA. I take the same meds as Crohns Patients, including a new Steroid, synthetic, UCERIS. Not nearly as dangerous as Prednisone. Uceris stops my Lichen Planus (so far). It's not designed to, not supposed to but, it does. Lialda isn't designed to work anywhere but the intestines but, it does, for me. HALLELUJAH. There's HOPE Jason!!!

    Hi Jason

i am not sure if this is similar but I have been intolerant to dairy for about 15 years then developed oral lichen planus a couple of years ago. The intolerance is digestive related and I have also noticed that dairy free food is loaded with sugars which is not good for OLP!

I also cannot do dairy. I use Lactose-free milk. That works fine. I use sugar sparingly. I substitute honey wherever I can. The only thing I can safely eat is meat. But only if I've taken all my meds including 6 - 7 Loperamide. Things that would normally be good for a person, I can't do. Fresh fruit & vegetables, multigrain, etc. I never can do oats, barley, or rye. Wheat is in moderation but only if it's processed like white bread. Same with sugar which I barely use. But it must be white. I'm in the habit of constantly knowing when I took the pills, what is my open window to eat, when I last ate, what it was, what vitamins I may need, what do I think I can safely get away with other than meat, how much of it I should have, etc. (I cheat all the time). I never can do spices. Just garlic. It's second nature to me now. Never eat out. Never. Never do Fast Food. Miss pizza!! But, I'm so very grateful for living in the 21st century. I drink Vitamin Water and Protein Water. I love my meds. Or I wouldn't be able to eat at all. Great weight loss though !! I think that's why God let me have this disease. Now I don't need Bariatric Surgery. I have the Rapid Transit System instead !!
