Do my symptoms suggest perimenopause?

I'm pretty sure I'm entering the perimenopausal stage, but it would be good to know if the symptoms I'm experiencing are shared by others at a similar age. I'm nearly 44 and I started experiencing symptoms most notably in the last year. My mum started at this age so I think it's a pretty good indicator. Main symptoms:

  • forgetting really basic words when describing something!
  • itchy skin. I've always suffered from excema but it's really irritable at the moment; my skin cracks so easily
  • very dry hair that no amount of conditioner or hair straightening can help with
  • sudden ringing in the ears
  • I finished my period 3 days ago (normal flow) and now its back again but fairly heavy
  • lastly, and perhaps the most embarrassing...let's just say I can't eat fish anymore, especially cod, as the smell lingers for a couple of days.

I know the menopause list of symptoms is a long one, but has anyone else got similar experiences?

Yes, I've had itchy skin/scalp, "brain fog," acute tiredness, had ringing and very sensitive to sounds (but that's gone), and I also get pinching sensations on my skin and acute pain on my skin/joints. I sometimes get an electric shock sensation on my chest (very painful). Here are symptoms that the US University of Washington's medical center posted on the internet as being related to perimenopause:

    Breast tenderness

    Hot flashes and night sweats

    Vaginal dryness

    Urinary incontinence

    Higher risk for UTIs

Changes in sexual function and desire

    Fatigue and sleep problems

Mood changes, such as anxiety or depression

Worsening PMS symptoms: cramps, IBS, bloating, etc.

    Weight gain

    Hair loss

    Heart palpitations

    Dry eyes and skin

    Headaches

Brain fog or trouble with memory or concentration

Dry mouth or changes in taste

Tingling in hands or feet or electric shock feelings

    Muscle aches or joint pain

    Worsening allergies

    Dizziness

I hope you are doing better!
