Do supplements work?

Has anyone tried D ribose or Co enzyme q10 (ubiquinol) with any benefits or side effects? Any advice would be grateful. I’ve been recommended these by another m.e sufferer. Tried D Ribose once yesterday & it upset my tummy, felt fuzzy & nauseous & didn’t sleep all night. Not sure if it was a coincidence so tried half the dose once today (the recommendation is 3 x a day but I always start low & slow) again upset tumny today (the runs.)

The read up all sounds good for them both but always good to hear from people who’ve experienced them 1st hand.

Oh & I’ve also ordered 5mg slow release melatonin also on recommendation, but feel reluctant to take it at the minute. I like to try one thing at a time to see what helps, but soooo need to sleep zzz

I've not heard of them.. I have tried all sorts of things. I think one at a time is a good idea. I haven't slept well as it is a huge part of it. there are so many symptoms to this illness. I have not worked for three months to give me time to rest.. I have had physio. huge amounts of natural remedies which cost me a fortune. read recently about a study in Norway about absorbic acid and vit b12. that specialist believed it was a bunch of illnesses which is why there is so many symptoms so hence a lot to figure out. I've done sleep apps. breathing. coucelling massages.. I have given up on spending money( that I don't have).

back to part time work which I love. and keeps me grounded.

so good luck with trying stuff. but take care not to try ripped off.

find your happy place.. mine is the beach.

take it easy on yourself and have kind people around d you. good luck.

      Hi Jane,

I’ve also tried so many things over the course of this illness. I’ve had cfs/me for 11 years now & not been able to work for 6 & half years. Been going through a bad relapse for the past 5 months - just because I went out for a meal!

I’ve now ordered CBD oil as my last resort. If this doesn’t help relieve things a little I will also give up on spending money I can’t afford.

      I hope you’re having a good day

If you have the virus, there is no Rx that will combat it directly. However, if your body is deficient in making or absorbing the vitamins and nutrients your body need to function well with or without CFS/ME you should take suppliments that help those body systems work better.

Do not be fooled by miracle cures for just about everything. The CFS/ME symptoms are found with MANY other illnesses and almost NO medical professional really understand CFS/ME so mis-diagnosis of the illness is widespread and what treatments are suggested are based on unscientific testimonials that send sufferers to the wolves of "alternative" medical quacks and outrageous costs for "recommended" physical and vitamin based treatments that CANNOT really touch what is causing the symptoms from the CFS/ME virus.

      Hi Jeffrey,

Yes I have the dreaded Illness, 11 years & counting. Like I said above I’ve tried just about everything. Just a few things left to try. There have been the odd things to help slightly in the past but not enough to give me back any quality of life.

      It’s such a cruel condition.

I know we really should wait to let the scientists do their thing. I’m always reading research. We get a glimpse of hope which seems to disappear quite quickly.

I pray to god they find something soon 🙏🏻

I've tried various supplements over the years including different herbal and homeopathic ones but I wouldn't say I noticed much difference when taking them. I haven't tried the D ribose but think the Co enzyme Q10 might have helped a little. I'm currently using a Linwoods seed/nut blend which also has Co Q10 in it on my porridge in the morning (along with Chia seeds and some raw cacoa powder) and think I have felt slightly better since taking it. But I've also been trying to change my diet and am finding lentil soup, spinach, avocados and sweet potatoes and spinach helpful. I take a multivitamin too. I've felt slightly better the last 4 months and managed to attend a 6 week stress control course then had a relapse, rested a lot and started doing guided relaxations again which I found really helpful. I picked up again then managed to go back to a remedial yoga class which I hadn't managed to attend for about 4 years and had an energy boost afterwards two weeks. Sadly last week I didn't listen to my body and attended the class when my muscles were still sore and have now had another bad relapse so have spend half of this week in bed. I feel I'm doing something right some of the time but just need to work out what it is! You just need to keep trying different things and find out what works for you.

    Hi Pet,

It really saddens me that sufferers of this awful sickness are left to fend for ourselves; the medical industry having no sense of urgency or motivation to find a cure since only 2 million American are afflicted! There is nothing that can done currently to bring relief from the viral infection. If your body needs better nutrition, eating a balanced diet with plenty of protein will help keep it functioning but the mental/ physical breakdown is ongoing and it's a moving target as to what will temporarily offer some relief or a tiny lift. It NEVER LASTS. I've tried CBD and it didn't help me at all.

The ONLY relief I can consistently count on is vaping THC in a 90+ % purity. I get immediate relief in all areas. If you have access. Try it. You'll find a friend in a puff or 2. Adderal helps in the morning and if I must go out. But it is a dangerous road to walk if you have an addictive tendency.

Yes sadly we are left to our own devices. We become our own scientist & probably more the expert on the illness than many professions we come into contact with. I’ve also had little relief from many things I’ve tried & all short lived. Thanks for the tip on vaping although reluctant with the THC personally. (I tried a puff last year & was off my head! Never again! Don’t remember much expect I was laughing my head off & very chatty - so my partner tells me I was very funny to watch. Good for others - not so much for me 🤪 haha. I like to be in control! I recently started on a new cbd oil (the last one didn’t help -I believe it was very weak, from hemp ) this one is 16% per drop. I can only tolerate 1 drop - 2 was way too much, but so far it’s taking the edge off the pain & malaise & now begging to sleep a little better, so hope it continues 🙏🏻 It’s the stavita strain so I take in morning. Not all cbd is the same.

We keep getting glimpses of hope with research then it all goes quiet. I can’t believe science & technology today they’re still no further forward to finding treatment or a cure.
