Do we all really require a ‘face-to-face’ assessment for PIP?

Hi all,

The simple answer is 'no', not all cases require a ‘face-to-face’ assessment. I thought I would raise awareness on how this actually works.

How is this even possible?

Under rare circumstances the amount of information provided to the DWP on your PIP Application and any supporting evidence would suffice a ‘paper based review’ instead. Obviously, all cases are treated on the information you provide, therefore if you do not provide enough then the ‘paper based review’ is omitted, and a ‘face-to-face’ is required by the DWP.

The PIP 'Paper-based' Review (No Assessment is required).

How a PIP Application is determined by how you complete the form, this is used as the main evidence for a Paper-based review. Never, rush filling in these applications, you have 4 weeks from when you apply, that is plenty of time, so you can plan how you are going to fill in the form. The content must be as detailed as possible and accurate. If you have other disorders then also include these and how they affect you on a daily basis.

Not all disorders are there everyday, which would mean they are intermittent, therefore indicate this in your Application.

1. If your application a low level of disability, the information is consistent, medically reasonable and there is nothing to suggest under reporting.

2. Your health condition(s) is associated with a low level of functional impairment, there is nothing to suggest under-reporting and the claimed level of function is not supported by further evidence.

3. An application which indicates a high level of disability, the information is consistent, medically reasonable and there is nothing to propose over-reporting.

4. The health condition(s) is severe and associated with a high level of functional impairment which is consistently claimed. Cases of this nature would include:

5. Claimants with cardiorespiratory conditions such as severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or those waiting for a transplant.

6. A Claimant with severe musculoskeletal conditions such as poorly controlled rheumatoid arthritis or severe osteoarthritis and awaiting major joint surgery.

7. A Claimant with severe neurological conditions such as motor neurone disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, a stroke resulting in a significant impact on the claimant’s functional abilities which can include, those left with lasting neurological deficit such as left sided hemi paresis (the inability to move the left side of the body), etc.

Any PIP Application where there is sufficient detailed content, which is consistent and medically reasonable information on functionality, will go better in your favor. If you are on repeated medication, then supply a copy with your Application.

I cannot stress enough how the PIP Application form should be filled in correctly. Your disorder(s), medication(s), and consultants, etc. should all be in detailed content.

Remember, you cannot add further disorders once your PIP Application as been sent, so make sure everything is listed.

Above all, remember it is down to you, detailed content is the key to your PIP Application.

How your Application is considered

If you have read all 7 conditions and you think that you could be deemed for a Paper-based Review, with everything supplied, you should be okay. Always remember 'Content is the key' to winning any PIP Award. The first stage is critical for PIP or ESA.

Regards,

Les.
