I had my first outbreak 3 weeks ago. The blisters have healed and I started daily suppression meds, but I still am so tender and itchy down there does this feeling ever go away??

    Hey kristie,

I caught hsv2 in aug/sep last year and my first outbreak was horrendous. Eventually it cleared up after taking aciclovir but yes, the itching (and shooting nerve pain in my lower body) went on for aaaages and I remember thinking 'omg is this ever going to stop?!?!??' But rest assured it does, just give it a couple of weeks. If it doesn't, go back to the docs and get put on a suppressive dose of the antiviral. I take 400mg twice a day now every day and I have zero symptoms smile

I know it was just so awful. I also got really heavy discharge for ages it was absolutely disgusting and made me feel sick. The whole thing made me feel gross. I had one ok outbreak initially with two small blisters (with fever, tonsilitis, aches and all that rubbish it was SO bad) then towards the end of the weak I had these huge blisters appear, one even like right near my bum. And they took so long to heal it was just awful. The itching and nerve pain lasted for around 3-4 weeks after I would say. In this time once I had healed, I then had yet another outbreak (lucky me) this one looked different, very much like what you see online with loads of tiny little bumps on one side of my vagina. This outbreak was no where near as bad as my first experience. But because I had had so many symptoms and outbreaks in such a short time, they decided to put me on the suppressive drugs and I have never looked back.

I've found it very hard to deal with emotionally, I entered into a new relationship with a man I fell instantly in love with (we were 25 when we met 6 months ago) and he didn't know he had it. It was very tough but we worked through it and we are still together and very in love.

It is hard, believe me, but it does get better. If you need help then don't be afraid to go and find it. I've told my family and my other half knows (obviously lol). I also started counselling which is really good and helps with this and various other issues. Good luck!

She is correct... The first is the worst and longest. I had nerve pain so bad I had to go to the ER and get on nerve pain meds during my first ob... It's been 7 months for me, I take meds every day, still have a breakout monthly, but they don't hurt and heal in days. I have never felt the same down there since, although I feel more normal now as time goes on. Now I have some mike itching here and there, crawly feeling in my genitals, back door and buttock that tickles to a point you need to ktxh for a few seconds and goes away.. But I don't feel like I'm sun burned down there all the time now. Alcohol has not been my friend, sugars or coffee. I get more symptoms on it when I have those. Hang in there and keep your head up. It doesn't define you, remember that.
