All my sympathies - just diagnosed 2 weeks ago: all under control now but had one episode a week ago when I did not know what to do with myself(maga severe toothache in all my teeth both top and bottom jaw), went to bed, no change after 1 hour so decided I had to do something active to help myself; started to massage my shoulder neck and jaw - did this for 1/2 hour and bingo - back to what has now become my manageable norm ie a constant dull earache and pain in either both or one jaw (it varies) - this I can cope with, compared with the options!!!Prior to diagnoses I had a similar problem (on the other side of my face) when I thought I had severe toothache but dentist said all fine, so went to Dr, Dr said all fine!! did this several times and finally for some completely other reason I was treated for chronic sinusitis and, magically, problem was solved!!! this may not be what is causing your severe toothache but if it is in the top jaw only it might be worth a try. I have also found accupuncture very helpful. Meanwhile chin up Veronika, you are not alone, and if this doesnt help I hope someone esle comes up with a solution.

    Hi Veronika.

The answer is one big YES to feeling you have bad toothache!

Even after I was diagnosed with TN I still felt that something was wrong with my teeth. The dentist (thank goodness a patient man)did numerous xrays over the months and told me my teeth and gums were healthy.

I went again 3 days before my MVD surgery as I still couldn't accept that my teeth were not to blame for some of my pain.Again he couldn't find anything wrong.

I'm now 5 weeks post surgery and the 'toothache' has gone on my right side (surgery side)but because I was unfortunate enough to get TN on both sides I am now getting 'toothache' on my left!

I hope yours has settled since you wrote on here.Hopefully your TN symptoms will be far and few between and the Gabapentin helps.

    All the Best.

YES. for a long time i thought there was something wrong with my teeth as well as knowing i had TN. It wasnt until i took a trip to Kangaroo Island and from the minute i got on the boat and out to sea the pain vanished that i realised it was somethng else. Sinus pressure. As soon as i got back to the mainland the pain came back. (dont know why really) Now i take care of my sinuses and make sure they are not blocked. I also have to watch out for cold sores as they also make thngs worse. Its an ever-changing scenario for me but i have periods of little pain with just a few horrible stabs and occasional flare ups with blanket pain on the left side of my face which feels like fire and i almost pass out. How are you going now??

Nice to know I'm not alone. I was diagnosed with TN 6 years ago (had the decompression surgery), but the pain has come back (started in March). I'm going through the same thing all over again. So want to believe if they pull all my teeth on the right, I'll be fine but I know better. Just didn't want to believe it was back. What I'm having a hard time with is working and taking Gabapentin. Does it make anyone else drowsy? How do you cope?

Mine feel starts in one tooth back left - can tell when my episode is going to start when it gets to my middle teeth - im hoping this one that started a couple of days ago only lasts a short time and goes into hiding for a year or ten as the pain is unforgattable and unexplainable to anyone that hasnt experienced it .... even loosing a leg to shark would be less painfull!!! good luck xxx

I cant believe that this was posted 3 years ago since I just got the same problem all of u are having. Since I am a newbie here. Can u please help me what to do. I havent experience this kind of pain before. I also have not experience any tooth pain before. so its easy for me to think that there is something wrong with my tooth. visited dentist immediately but of course you know what they will tell. that your teeth and gums are perfectly healthy. it took me 5 days without normal meal and 4 days for them to figure out what to do. they did an rct even they know that there is no definite pathology. but they said just to ease the pain we will do it. and since i am not much of a know -it-all of course i agree, its more like i force them to do so. but to my frustrations, just after the anesthesia wore off. after my 2nd bite of a delicious burger. the same electric 1000v shock pain came. the most disapointing moment of my life. what should i do next? is it right about my readings regarding TN?

Hi Cherille, yes TN can feel like a toothache. If you've been to the Dentist and they couldn't find anything wrong your next step is to see a neurologist. If they find it's TN they will try medication to relieve the nerve pain. There are several different meds.Hopefully they will find the one that is best for you. I know your pain. Best of luck

thanks for the advice. its been 6 days now that i have no decent meal. i only ate once after the dentists gave me LA before the day of my rct but now, i feel like eating and brushing my teeth is a luxury which i cannot even afford. and who would have tought that washing face, toothbrushing, gargling, applying makeup, drinking, eating, talking can be the most scariest part of the day. its so upsetting that i just cry. i will for sure visit a neuro now. and hope something will help me or even consider my case as a neuro case.
