Do you have AS and a THP? Please reply

I have AS and am having a mother of a flare. Literally can not use my arms which is very difficult with the crutches. Chest compressions and the usual. I wonder if it is the pressure of the operation causing such a terrible one? Did you find this?

Hospital is now pushing to start ANTI TNF biologics next week... Feeling quite daunted starting them so soon. If you are on biologics did they help?

Got through the hip replacement relatively unscathed, and now being flattened by the AS. If you have any tips or advice please let know. I used to have three hour hot baths and massages when it was bad, as well as the usual cocktail of drugs, but can't do either at the moment sad

I see the lovely rheumatologists at the Bath clinic which I think you know well - may have mixed you up with someone else but from memory which is under strain. It is such a supportive, positive and healing environment.

You are quite right.  I am sxheduked to see a consultant at the Bath Clinic.  A complete fluke, as my original appointment at RUH in Bath was cancelled due to bereavement in the consultant's family, so when I was offered this, I was more than happy.  I used to use the golf range and took lessons at the hotel across the road.  They also have a lovely Gym.  Went up there with a friend of mine who is a crack golfer, she wins everything, and spends six months here in the Summer and the Winter in Cape Town.  We always had coffee or lunch at the hotel on their terrace afterward.  Very fond memories of that area of Bath.

I have posted on a simple relief on the night sweats issue.  I am looking for other remedies.

Sorry Im no help to you Rose as you have gathered I didnt even know what it is. Just looked it up on web. You poor girl presumably this is why you have had to have the THR so young? Perhaps the flare up is due to doing so much isince last week looking after the children all day? How is it going? Not too long to go until they are back to school.

Im afraid I cant offer any practical experienced advice only to say just do the absolute minimum day to day. The children will manage as long as they are safe, warm, and have food nothing else matters except for you and your well being.

    Love and hugs

Ps Also just read your post about the evil witch masquerading as a physio. Really dont understand why some and luckily they are in the minority have to behave so badly. Its another form of bullying and should not be tolerated. When I was in hospital for my first op there was a physio who actually made one of the patients cry. But luckily most of us were tough old birds who were outraged by this and gave her a piece of our minds when she next came to the ward. Needless to say she was all apologies and nice as pie.  But private practice is more difficult to deal with - if you can, contact the professional body they belong to and complain.

You are doing amazingly well so take no notice of Cruella de ville!

Your message brought a tear or two to my eye Linnet. I am finally sitting down after a tiring day preparing for school tomorrow. It has been a rocky road for a few days on the health front but my children have been so brilliantly behaved - it has made me realise how caring they are as people and how much they love me. Like all children they have their moments, but not for the last week in a half.

I am so relieved they are happy and well, and have had a surprising amount of fun making a house out of cereal boxes!!

I didn't think I could cope but I did, hip is sore as hell but I did it Linnet! Tears and all. Thanks to people like you I actually feel someone somewhere cares.

Its lovely isnt when children just have fun doing simple things. No computers, no tv, no expensive plastic toys just cardboard boxes 😀

and of course spending time with their mum. They sound lovely children and a credit to you.

Hope you get a reasonable rest tonight

I am 7 weeks post op following RTHR, I have AS which has given me a rigid spine so they had use GA because they couldn't get the needle in for the spinal block. I stopped Anti-TNF injections 2 weeks before the op and went back on them 3 weeks after as I was getting severe issues mainly with my wrists which was making it difficult to use crutches. That improved after 24 hours.

What other drugs were you taking for the AS that you have stopped?

I didn't stop any of the oral drugs for the AS before the operation.
