Do you have headache too?

Hi everyone I am a newby, I have just been diagnosed with meniere's and up to now knew nothing of the condition. When I have the uncomfortable fullness in my left ear, which seems constant, I get headaches and a blocked nose too. Does anyone experience this too?

I have only had one really bad attack where I could'nt even lift my head without being sick which lasted 24 hours but the other attacks have been either minor lasting a couple of hours or enough to keep me off work for a day. At the moment the tinatus is not bad enough to cause me distress.

Hi Jackie I've had menieres for a few years now and most days I have headaches which I take a pain killer for which tends to help. Also when having an attack I tend to take motion sickness tablets these tend to stop some of the sickness too.

Thank you Sarita I found motion sickness didn't work much for me but taking an antihistamine has helped keep the fullness in my ear at a minimum.

Hi Jackie. My husband was diagnosed 3 years ago. He suffers from headaches most of the time too. He can tell now when an episode is approaching as the fullness in his ear increases and the tinnitus notches up as well. Most of the time he can manage his headaches with painkillers but sometimes he has to go to bed to sleep it off. I think menieres can be quite isolating, in that it's invisible to anyone else and not that many people have heard of it. So this forum is really good in that you realise there are people who are or have experienced the same and helps to ease the feeling of isolation. I find it too as the partner of a sufferer. Take care Jackie.

Thank you for your reply Angie.  I think I have had the condition for a few years really and after one doctor said my ears were clear and to hold my nose and blow to clear my ear I didn't bother persuing it but finally decided to go back. Menieres was mentioned (never heard of it) This forum has helped me understand but I really do feel it is taking over as I am forever waiting for the next attack.  Oh well onwards and upwards.  I hope your husband recovers quickly.

Hi I haven't had headaches, but when an attack is coming I do get increased pressure and tinnitus. I find it is all stress related. After the last attack my hearing has come back again.

Hi I have had a headache and the fullness in my ears for 32 days now, so today I went and bought some ear candles which I read on the internet are meant to help. I have used them and the pressure in my ears and head has cleared up a great amount, not  100% but at least 90%  making me feel more human.

Hi Sarita  I have not heard of ear candles before, what are they? and where do you get them? They sound pretty good if you have 90% improvement.  32 years is a long time to have this uncomfortable condition. Is your hearing impaired too?

      Take care Jackie x

Hi Jackie ear candles are long tubes made of some sort of material and you put one end in your ear and the other end you burn down to a set amount. This cleans your ear of wax Etc and somehow it eases the pressure when my ear feels really full. I read about them on one of these sites so thought I would give it a try and I'm so pleased no dizzy spells today so fingers crossed it will ease of abit after 31 days I couldn't cope with it anymore. I wear an hearing aid now in my affected side which helps abit. The candles you can get in some Heath shops or the Chinese herbal shops £8 for a pair xx

Hi jackie, ive just been diagnosed with MD after months of feeling extreamly unwell. I have suffered with migranes since my early 20s (iam now 39). I also have a blocked nose all the time, and seem to have a lot of clear watery fluid all the time, which causes me to have sores up my nose. For the past 6 years i have had a feeling of water rushing about in my right ear, i visited my gp several times with this and was informed each time my ear was inflamed and was prescribed an antibiotic spray. I believe this was the start of MD. In november/dec last year i was very ill, and was diagnosed with sinusitus and ear infection, by feburary this year i was experiencing severe vertigo, unable to walk had to crawl to the bathroom, and vomiting frequently. Tinatus not to bad for me i can cope with that, its the vertigo etc thats really affecting me.

Also should have said, i have had a grommet in my right ear, stopped smoking and reduced salt & caffeine intake, the attacks have lessoned, just hope i continue to improve. Maybe you should discuss grommets with your doctor they seem to work with some people and its a very simple proceedure. Good luck

Oh Abby poor you! you have really had a tough time of it. Thankfully I haven't had it that bad. I have never smoked and don't have added salt anyway but I know most foods have salt in them.  I live each day with my fingers crossed that I don't get a bad attack.  Take care, Jackie x
