Hi. I've had OA for approx 25 years now and am 72. The pain of OA in my case at any rate, is always worse in winter, hot humid and cold damp weather. Here in the UK thats most of the time! I have it in my spine due to scoliosis, shoulders, neck, elbows, hands/fingers, feet/toes. Most of my joints now in fact, my knees are aching too lately. The only treatment I've had is for pain relief and physio and this is about all the docs can do at the moment. If joints are so bad you can't walk you may be refered for surgery but don't hold your breath! Blood tests are done to rule out other forms of arthritis such as rheumatoid. ankylosing and lots of others too. OA does not show in a blood test! A scan might show it but xrays just show a gap in the joint where the damage causes the osteo arthritis to start. There's lots of info on this site if you look under Health Information at the top of this page. I got very depressed and needed help for this too from my GP's. Don't be afraid to go and see them, they can help if they know how you're feeling. Best wishes, Pollyanna UK. rolleyes
