Hi I was prescribed propranolol for my anxiety but I don't think it's for anxiety they are beta blockers that slow heart beat down xx

Why are you nervous about taking it? Have you told your dr?  Have you tried any non drugs treatments for your anxiety? Yoga, meditation, mindfulness, breathing exercises, cbt are all very good ways to deal with anxiety. There are lots of online tapes on relaxation too , free online. I am sorry you are feeling anxious it is a horrible feeling. I find distraction, listening to relaxing music helps. Take care let us know how you go. xx

Hi, thanks for reply,I'm actually take 10mg of propanolol 4 times a day at the minute for panic attacks that cause fast heart beat, but they cause bad stomach and nausea so asked doctor if I could change to another see if it will work better. And I think nervousness is from worrying about the side effects I could get. Thanks

A relative had this experience and the dr discontinued the drug but slowly and referred him to counsellor for cbt. this solved the root of the anxiety. Sorry for the rushed reply.

Drs are reluctant to prescribe drugs such as benzodiazepines. There is an excellent article on this on Patient. The author is Dr Mary Harding. NICE guidelines for drs advise on prescribing propanol for  anxiety . Benzos are addictive and dangerous, pls rad Ashton Manual. Regards.xx

I wouldn't take benzodiazpines,I take fluoxetine/Prozac its just the physical symptoms of anxiety I hate heart racing the main one, hopefully the Atenolol/Beta Blocker works.

Fluoxetine causes a racing heart, seizures, spasms, anxiety etc, etc. I despair sometimes cos people fail to read the PILS or to question drs .Just venting sorry. xx
