Doctor misdiagnosed my rash?

Hello, I had what I think I believe to be a herald patch on my arm 3 weeks ago and then a week later started getting small red marks on my stomach. Then a few days it spread rapidly to the rest of my chest, sides and back. The marks got bigger, oval shaped, scaly and peeling. They can be very sore and sometime itchy but not unbearable. I self-diagnosed with pityriasis rosea. I went to the doctors today (as this was the first opportunity to get an appointment!). I was very disappointed as I was only in there 2 mins and she prescribed me penicillin antibiotics, and an antifungal/streroid cream, thinking it has a bacterial or fungal cause. This is opposite to what I think it is! I'm worried about the side effects of using these medications, especially if its not going to work against pityriasis rosea. Has aanyone else had similar from their doctor and have they found it effective? The rash is really getting me down and preventing me from going to work. I want rid as soon as possible! I have started using aveeno, head and shoulders and sunbeds from the advice given on these forums, but it is too soon to tell if it has worked yet. I just wish this horrible disease would go!

Hi, sorry about the issue, it is indeed upsetting. I also was misdiagnosed and slathered antifungle for weeks as well as a pill. This last bout and it was a bad one, extremely itchy. They gave me prednisone, and vistaril, and hydrocortisone valerate cream. It put a cabosh on the outbreak and calmed the itch. Dots are turning faster and are showing signs of fading rather quickly. Note however ive been dealing with it sence february. Got meds april and still have it tho improved.

I have come to Believe stress is a key ingredient somehow for today im itchy a bit.

    I wish us all well!

Dear Rachel,  I too developed this horrible rash and our doctor said it was the worst case he'd ever seen.  I wasn't itchy at all, until I sat out in the sun after reading that some advised it may help and nearly went through the roof and landed up having a cortisone injection.  I researched and found an article on Olive Leaf Extract - a natural antiviral, antifungal, antibiotic - this amazing liquid cleared my rash in two weeks!!!  After the doctor had warned me it would take at least 8 weeks to subside.  Within two weeks of beginning the Olive Leaf Extract, my skin was perfect, like nothing had ever happened.  I do know there are different strengths and obviously the higher the cost, the purer the ingredients - I used one from a company called Herbal Wellness.  My mother-in-law was diagnosed with Rheumatoid disease and found this also helped with the inflammation.  I hope this helps a little!
