Doctor refused me a MRI :(

Im 18 and since I was 14 ive had chronic back pain, when I was 14 a doctor told me I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 21 without diagnosing me with anything. For years I have battled for a diagnosis with the NHS and last week was diagnosed with Scoliosis. Im happy to be diagnosed but now im at a dead end. Im constantly in pain, for at-least one day a week I cant walk and maybe the worst of all I cant take part in any college activities like days out and group activities because either im not aloud for health and safety reasons or because im in too much pain. Ive become isolated and lonely and constantly in pain. The doctors give me co-codomol and it makes me feel drunk all day.

I want to know where my pain is coming from so i asked my doctor for a scan over the phone because she wont even see me face to face and she has said no. I dont know what else to do, im in so much pain and day to day life is just a struggle:-(

Any advice will be great,

Thankyou

I am amazed that your GP won't see you face to face. Don't play around anymore. Just go online and report her to the GMC. She is effectively denying you much needed treatment.

Do you recon there is any other way I can get a MRI? If I go to the out of hours in pain, can they reffer me?

No, I don't think that a pain clinic is going to refer you. You could try going to A&E instead.

I would go to a and e. I've been a couple of times as in so much pain with my back and they have bee neally helpful. They then said they want me to see a consultant and I now deal with the hospital to get my diagnosis rather than gp. In touch with gp for pain medication Ect but the hospital are the ones diagnosing me now not the gp. Hope that helps look after yourself xx

    Hi

I refer you to the posting that I put on the site entitled `How I solved my back pain'.

One of my friends told me that she had been diagnosed with curvature of the spine 20 odd years ago and had been in constant pain over that time period.  She saw how I succeeeded with my own condition where I went from being warned that I would shortly be living from a wheelchair to today when my life is littled troubled by back related conditions.

She wanted to try the method that I used and I was scheptical because I was concerned that the method might aggravate her condition.  However, having heard my reservations, she made the decision to purchase a Backlife and tried the method for herself.   She reported that the method worked for her and she says that now she is being told the spine curvature has now gone.  Later she said that she was contemplating resuming playing tennis again.

She needed about 500 sessions of the 12 minute cycle of the Backlife machine to effect this improvement and also has periodic treatment from an Osteopath..

People are not good in expressing clearly their symptoms so I do not know if her condition was as severe than she was saying.  I can only take her at her word.  If her words are accurate, this is a most amazing result.

Maybe this is an approach that you could discuss with your Doctors/manufacturers of Backlife as a way forward.  Your symptoms sound so severe that I think that you must seek advice before trying this approach.  I can see the possibility that it might make matters worse as well as better and am in no position to advise you either way.

I wish you all the best

    Peter

Can you see a different doctor? I have the option of seeing any GP my surgery has a spare appointment for.
