Hi all, im 43 and always been overweight, i have as long as i can remember been on a diet.  I suffer from Pcos, diabetes type 2, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  The doctor weighed me and my bmi is 51, they have put me forward for operation, but have to do a few months weight management with the nurse there.  I feel relieved that they have listened i know its going to be hard and a long journey but i want and will do this.  How has everyone else got on.

    Well done. Good luck.

I hope you get your banding done quickly. Sometimes there is a long winded pathway and a lot of meetings n sessions you have to attend before getting the initial consultation.

All in all at least it's a step in the right direction

HI DAWN - congrats on getting referred for wgt loss surgery - it might be that when you get your appt with the consultant you will get offered another type of surgery other than a band which might be more suited to your health status and you personally so be prepared and do a bit of research on other types of op available - you may also have to jump through many hoops on the NHS before you actually get the surgery but at least you are off the starting block - you could google RNY, sleeve and duodenal switch as possible alternatives and look at both the negatives and positives of all surgeries or look at WLSinfo for some info - a support group is also a good place to go as you can speak to others who have already walked in your shoes - good luck with all of this

Yeah i discussed it with the doctor and he seems to think that the band will be whats offered.  I kept putting it off but i was getting more and more depressed.  I do feel better now the doctor said i can have it done.  I know it is probably gonna be long winded but at least im like you both say im on the starting block.
