Doctors who think they're God!!

Why do some doctors get so flamin above themselves?! I went to a and e on saturday with awful pain, coming from my ovarian cysts, I believed, as I had been diagnosed 4 weeks ago when I first went into a and e with similar pain. When I arrived I explained what had happened previously and that I was awaiting a gynae appt and had another scan pending, however the pain was now much worse. I was sent for a chest and pelvic xray (?!) and had blood tests done. No scan was arranged. So I am waiting to see a doctor on a trolley still in a lot of pain and this 'doctor' comes along, asks me what has been happening and I again explain it all to her. She simply tells me " you don't have any cysts, I have checked on an MRI(?!?!?!) you had in the last six months, your bloods are normal so far, you can go home"!!!!!! Oh really! So I say "I do have cysts they were seen 4 weeks ago, yes plural! And I am still in the same pain I walked in with! I didn't come here cos there's nothing on the telly!! I am here cos this is a hospital and I am in pain and want it investigating properly. I want to see a gynae doctor!" She sees her bum with me and says I will probably not be able to see a gynae doctor bla bla. When she came back to tell me she was not arranging for me to see a gynae, I asked her her name as I intended to complain about her completely dismissive attitude. She didn't give it to me at first and only gave it when I kept asking. Then she stormed off to get her consultant, so I complained to him about the way she had spoken and the fact that I knew for certain I had cysts. Anyway, he got some morphine and admitted me with the promise of seeing a gynae as soon as possible. He also apologised for his juniors' behaviour! I saw a gynae, had a scan, the cycts have grown, there are also fibroids, endimetriosis and adhesions and, as the pain has died down and is now not as bad, I am going in for an elective operation next week when I will have my right ovary and tube removed and any endimetriosis and adhesions sorted out that they can get to. I have just come home and hoping the pain will stay manageable until next week, as apparently if it is done as an emergency procedure they will just remove the cyst and not look for other problems and I would rather it be done properly. Just wanted to moan about doctors! Lol and to say to anyone - do not let them dictate your care!! If you are not happy with what someone is saying to you, tell them and ask for a second opinion. Too many of them are getting away with being too dismissive these days and treating us like we are not worth their energy. I know they are not all like this and I will say also that I have seen some lovely doctors, including at my own GP's surgery!

Looking forward to being pain free (well from a gynae point anyway, RA is another matter! Lol) xxx

Oh my goodness that's awful treatment! I was admitted 18 months ago due to the most horrendous pain which they discovered was a huge cyst. The starved me for 3 days and kept me out if it on morphine whilst about 10 doctors faffed on teying to decide whether or not to operate. Then they stopped ALL pain relief and sent me home.

Just had results of another scan today and I have an 8mm haemorrhagic cyst which they aren't happy with so back again for ca125 test on thursday.

Third doctor I've seen in a week.... first in 9 years of agony to suggest this test.

I dn't understand why they havent just gone to take it away if they are not happy with it?! Surely they won't just leave it?

So what happened with the first one that was large?did it burst? Apparently mine is only about 4cm by 3cm but 3 weeks ago was only 2-5 by 2 so is growing. Its not large but bloody painful, since I came home today the pain has returned with a vengeance so i am upping my pain relief and staying in bed. Just dont wanna end up back in a and e, 1 to be treated so shabbily and 2 as a want the elective op it will be so much better and they will have time to do all that is necessary so that this wont happen in thefuture, at least on this troublesome side as I do often have some degree of pain on this side.

well let me know how things go and good luck x

They just left it... I was meant to have a follow up scan but when I went to see gynae consultant they said I didn't need it and tried to make me get the marina coil which I don't want. They said come back in ten years for a hysterectomy!! Useful! They told me 10 years ago if I was 10 years older they would have "whipped the whole lot out" so my faith in them is not optimum. I'm trying to just relax and be thankful I don't have pain right now xx

Wow! Yeah really useful! If they said they wouldjust whip the lot out there must have still been a reason, something must have been not right then, so there were other things they could do?! Strange. I don't understand why they tendnot to believe our pain! I was told by the radiographer (not gynae) that she could see nothing that would be causing my pain. However, upon talking to the gynae doc was then told the pain could quite easily be from the cysts, the endimetriosis OR the adhesions!! So just goes to show some medical people aint got a scooby what the hell they're talking about!! Medical people always contridict one another and this makes me so mad! Who are you supposed to believe when one tells you the other was wrong and they're right?!

Glad your pain has subsided for the time being. Make some noises if it comes back though! Lol xx

I know.... i think its because you can't clearly see it. You can see a broken bone therefore it's real and fixable. Our pain cannot always be seen. Plus our condition is not always painful.

Last time i was admitted I saw 4 different gynae consultants and they each said something different. Not even gonna mention the surgical team! I went for a shower and got accused of leaving the ward to go for a wander. I could barely walk! The poor nurse got a right gob full from me.

The first time I was bad 10 years ago it was PID but I had no infection they couldn't figure out the problem they thought it was appendix hence operating they cut adhesions decided it was PID and that was it.

My other laporoscopies have been one exploratory, one to cut adhesions, another exploratory and one to check for endo.

I'm typing this and thinking I'm sore but i'm sure it's just that I am thinking about it sad

Ha oh dear! I hope you are not starting with pain again!!

Who would  be a woman eh?! I hae had a few laparoscopies too where they have freed adhesions, apparently there have  been a lot since I had an emergency c section with my first, who is now 21.

i just wanna get on with my life, so much to do, get my little boat out and about etc., why would I take myself into a and e in a lovely hot day when we weere due to go off to the boat to prepare a trip for a few days! I dunno

.! Maybe some doctors dont get out much and spend too much time in hospital that they think thats what we wanna do too! Lol blimey the hospital i went to last time was filthy! The toilet bins were iverflowing, including sanitary bins! The place was closed to visitors cos of norovirus. The staff left blood on the floor from the woman next to me who had a drain fitte to an abcess on her ovary and they hadnt closed the bottom of the drain so it leaked all over the floor by my bed. When i told a nurse she just walked away! It was about an hour or so later when another nurse and hca came in that I made sure I told them, in eashot of everyone else on the ward, that I was concerned about infection as this still hadnt been cleaned up! One of them simply wiped it with a tissue-unbelievable! Thats why I presented at a different hospital this time-much cleaner and most of the staff really nice!

have you heard of a cyst within a cyst? Apparently thats what I have, is it common? X
