Docusate Sodium Reaction

I recently had surgery and need to keep stools soft.    Been trying with metemucil and diet , hydration but it doesn't seem to be helping much.

So I got some Colaxyl which uses Docusate Sodium as the active drug.      I took it last night (100mg) with food and the other stuff I am taking - 400 mg Ibuprofen and a magnesium supplement.

After about an hour I went to bed and noticed I felt a bit hot.      I couldn't sleep and just got more and more flushed and then had to pee again ... went to toilet to pee and noticed my pulse was really racing ... back to bed got the BP meter out and I was 168 / 103 pulse 105 while laying calmly .... I tried to stay calm and took the BP every few minutes .. it was much the same.    Thought about going to the ER, but decided that I would try 2mg of valium first (it was also new years eve and the ER would be flat out and I would have put myself through even higher BP getting there).

The valium started to have an effect after about 40 minutes and BP dropped a little, so  I took another 2mg when that one also started working my BP was down to a more respectable level.   So I went to sleep .. but even then I had this weird kind of buzzing feeling as I would start to nod off and it would wake me up.    By morning everything was back to normal.

I cannot find much about this type of reaction with this stuff.   Does anyone have any ideas ?   I do get 'buzzed out' like this and I had a similar (but more severe) reaction to an iron infusion once.     Is it just me ?

I don't know if I've ever tried the two drugs that you mention but I have had that feeling that you're describing when I take too much Tylenol. I don't take Tylenol anymore but back as a teenager I would get to feeling that way. I don't know if it's an allergy per se or a bad reaction to the medication but it's obvious you should not use it anymore. I find what helps me considerably with my constipation issues is a daily dose of Miralax. You should consider giving it a try. If you are already backed up then I would suggest you do one of two things. Number 1, double the dose of Miralax just until you have a BM. And number 2, if that does not work try magnesium citrate. It's a bubbly liquid like soda only it taste nasty in my opinion but it works wonders. Good luck on this and whatever you do do not wait out too long or you could end up with a severely impacted colon and that is horrible. Trust me I know.
