Does anxiety cause acid reflux?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have a been extremely stressed and my anxiety has been bad as well for the past few weeks. I already have acid reflux that I normally have under control. The past few days I've been real stressed and my acid reflux has been the worse that it's ever been. Does anxiety and stress cause this to happen? Also I have upper back pain in the middle of my shoulder blades.

Yes Anxiety can cause this, If you feel the need to belch and your tummy is grumbling like a bear you can purchase lossenges at a chemist or some sweet shops, mints can help as can a glass of milk, the latter will line your tummy and protect it from the excess acids been produced. If nothing is working from a chemist talk to your GP He can prescribe a script. Remember some of these scripts can be purchased over the counter cheaper.

Yes they do go hand in hand lol. It’s as simple as anxiety causes stress, stress causes more stomach acid production, which is acid reflux. It sucks really bad but lifestyle changes & antiacids make this condition a whole lot easier which I’m pretty sure your aware of. I also get middle back back between my shoulder blades, pain in the chest, & ribs after eating. You’ll be fine just manage your stress better. Try not to take life so seriously for a minute lol. Meditate, pray, drink water, you know all that good stuff

I agree with what has been said. I too suffer from anxiety. My go told me not only does stress and anxiety cause extra acid to be produced, especially if it goes on a long time, it also causes you to gulp and swallow air which you don't realize you are doing. This is turn causes bloating and wind.I think she told me that the wind can force the acid up. It is amazing just what stress can do to your body. I have just been diagnosed with mild gastritis brought on by long term anxiety. I too get back pain between the shoulders which is very painful. Just try and sort out the stress not easy I know but it will be the key to getting better. Take antacids and watch what you eat. If it does not calm down go back to your gp. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks for the responses. I also am experiencing stomach twitches on the left side of my stomach, has been going on for 3 days. I'm in the process of moving so I don't know if that to could be caused by stress
