Does anyone else crave physical comfort??

Ok, so this is my second bout of depression, the last time was about 8 years ago. Back then my wife was very physically supportive, she hugged me or squeezed my hand or cuddled into in bed on a daily basis. This time she needs time to get her head around the situation and will only offer me words of comfort. But I'm struggling this time, could this be a contributing factor? Does anyone else feel the need for physical contact to help?

Hi Simon, I would imagine this maybe a contributing factor, if this helped before . Yes I too crave a hug etc but being single it isn't available to me , so it must be doubly hard for you if your wife can't seem to be like it this time. It is very hard on those trying to support us , I wish you well Simon

Hi Simon I also crave the physical comfort my husband gives me but as I travel for work a lot he has not be around. I do notice that I am calmer when we are lying togther in bed. I am also aware however that there are times when he needs his own space to breathe I guess. I have been on the other side and been with a partner suffering from depression long before my battle began and know how hard it can be on family members. We've tried to be very open about how this is affecting both of us and he's asked me what he can do to help but it's taken us a couple of months to get here. I hope you find the comfort and support you need.
