Before I was diagnosed I itched where I am hairy on the mount in front. I did not connect it to anything at the time other than my hair was getting sparse and I thought that was why I was itching. So yes I did itch elsewhere but it was near. Where are you itching?

    hi Chrissy,

Hi Amy, It is the LS that makes the itch. The white patches appear when it is really active. Not everyone has them at first. Some are just red raw and very sore. Use the steroid ointment you are prescribed and wash with Epaderm, Hydramol or whatever double base gel, moisturiser you are prescribed. Try different ones to find one that works. It is a bit of trial and error but you should be able to calm the itch. I rarely itch these days as I keep on top of it. Have you definately got Ls or is it just a guess by the doc?

My itch (pre diagnosis) was the same as yours, Chrisy. LS seems to be like psoriasis in that there are several 'kinds'. I get the front itch where there are a lot of follicles, the back 'ring of fire' that burns and looks red and the white patch that tears into a gash over my perineum. I believe that the steady dose of the clobetasol (dermovate) keeps the whole area calmed down even though I only rarely put any on the front area.

Amy its the dermovate that stops the itch and the Epaderm/Hydramol that keeps it away.  Get these from your doctor.  The Epaderm is in a huge tub so u can use as much as you need.  R u in UK ?

    Hi Amy,

why don't you ask the doctor to prescribe you some Epaderm Ointment. Honestly it is so soothing and can be used to wash with. You can apply it every time you pee which helps to keep the urine off your bits. (This is what makes things worse) If you are in a hurry just wash with epaderm afterwards. Put some on a tissue and wipe very gently with it if you cannot wash properly (Ie in public toilets). The dermovate you can use as the doc prescribed. If that doesn't calm things down there are other things he can prescribe. Don't be afraid to ask for things. It is your body and you are the one having probs. Remember though to give the dermovate a chance to work about an hour before you apply the epaderm.

Epaderm comes in big tubs so you can transfer some to a smaller container for taking with you. Use the dermovate on the rear patch as well. It might help. If you have no improvement soon go back to the Doctor. Good luck.

Hi all back from holiday and been itch free which is lovely. Using Hydromol to wash down below and then apply some afterwards which keeps me itch free and use Dermovate 1 or 2 times a week. It is lovely to sit and not feel like I have a load of pins jabbing me down there and as you say Chrisy I think it is definately the urine which starts off the itching. Mine was always last wee before bed and used to scratch in agony was like having about 6 gnatbites down there but now is thankfully a thing of the past Carol x

Glad to hear things are improving.  Keep up with dermovate as instructed then eventually at least 1 or 2 times a week.  R u using the Hydromol or Epaderm at all other times as well.  Wash with it and use it to moisturise the whole area every loo visit.  Good luck.

That's what I am still doing and still itch free after 12 years of agony .

It really works .  I started a flare up two days ago I managed to calm it down straight away(within an hour).  The key is to always be prepared and don't wait until you get home.  Use the dermovate to calm and the Epaderm to protect and moisturise.
