does anyone else get vertigo as a result of anxiety?

hey! im a 18 year old with severe health anxiety (so bad i get panic attacks when my brain decides that that small ache in my, let's say left toe is bone cancer). for almost a year i've been getting vertigo in the evening and/or when im in a huge room, for example a supermarket. i dont have any other neurological symptoms (except for ocassional fasciculations but i've had them since forever) and i know that if this were a brain tumor the symptoms would've progressed and became worse a long time ago, yet i can't seem to convince myself that its NOT a brain tumor. pls i need some reassurance if anyone's had vertigo associated with their anxiety or if any medical professional would like to enlighten me i'd be really grateful!

Hi this is me to a t!! Im 44 female. I started having anxiety in my 30s and it turned into extreme health anxiety. I have had all the test done and everything was normal. Right now im suffering with dizziness I went to doctors and she said i had a good amount of wax build up in both ears. So now i have apt with ent on Monday. I do know how you feel because every day is a struggle. Especially when your hyper aware of every feeling in your body. My doc gave me hydroxine for anxiety but im of course afraid to take anything because of side effect. I wish i had an answer for you. I did read though that people like us who have extreme anxiety tend to get to much oxygen and this maybe the cause.I just wanted to answer your post because i do relate more than you no. Feel free to message me on here if you want to talk

sorry you are going through this. I am a former nurse and also an anxiety sufferer.
I want to let you know that first of all I am way older than you and when I was in my 20s I came down with the exact same sensations that you get plus many others. i had vertigo, fasciculations, numbness, tingling, floaters in my eyes, weird vision, severe weakness , and more.
I thought something was seriously wrong with me! Back then nobody had Internet so I really didn’t have much support and my parents weren’t sure what was happening. My dad took me to a neurologist who ran some testing and everything was normal.
All my sensations were due to long term anxiety and stress which I definitely had.
i Learned a lot after I went through nursing school. I learned a lot about the nervous system and how it relates to anxiety.
anxiety and stress tend to show symptoms in the nervous system. That’s why we get vertigo, and why I got numbness in tingling. Vertigo is a very common sensation with anxiety. It’s not really associated with brain tumor. neither are fasciculations. I’ve had both of those on and off for many years. They are not harmful.
The fact that you get vertigo in something like a supermarket is very telling that you have a high level of anxiety. i’ve also gotten that in stores and when there’s a lot of people around. many people on this site have had lightheadedness and vertigo and shopping centers and places like that . It’s very common with unmanaged anxiety and stress.
Keep in mind that when you have anxiety it can cause scary negative thoughts. Those thoughts are NOT based on fact or reality. They are based on emotion and that emotion is fear. and think about it. There are no facts to back up your fear!
Once you are aware of that you can work on letting those thoughts go. Yes it takes some practice but after a while when you keep letting it go your mind will automatically let them go. let them go in a relaxed calm state. The more you stress out about them the more you will have. I know this from years of experience!
You are going to be OK! You don’t have symptoms of brain tumor. vertigo and fasciculations do not equal that. It sounds exactly like something called illness anxiety disorder. You can look that up.
don’t Google your symptoms because it won’t pertain to your individual situation and you’ll be scared for no reason.
feel free to private message me anytime!

thats good. keep up the therapy ! the mind is very powerful.
remember that whatever you focus on in your mind will grow. Whether it’s positive thinking or negative thinking so that’s why it’s very important to focus on the positive.

Hi,
Yes, can definitely confirm to experience what feels like vertigo with anxiety. I used to enjoy going to football matches, but when my anxiety / head pressure starts building I have to literally keep hold of my seat it's so bad. The fact you experienced this in a supermarket (a busy and can be stressful environment ) does indeed point towards anxiety. Have experienced it so bad that it has almost knocked me completely off my feet ! Have had tests etc. nothing found wrong, sorry you are experiencing this nightmare !

Yes, I have. FWIW, my vertigo only showed up as a symptom of anxiety after I was dealing with a high-stress situation for over a year. It sounds like we're in the same boat. Gotta keep rowing, I guess. 😃
