Does anyone get a quote for a service prior to seeing a physician?

I have decent insurance, but I am in need of ACL surgery and want to compare doctors prior to having surgery.  I plan on getting quotes from doctor's prior.  Does anyone have any experience getting pricing information prior to being provided services?

My surgeon advised he could personally operate on me for $AUD6,000. I opted for one of his registrar's who was supervised by my surgeon. I did not ask for a quote, however I would have if I did not expect to have my bilateral replacements on Australia's NHS for free.

    HI Shay,

I 100% understand the money issue in regards to, well anything BUT I would try to go with one of the top surgeons, which might cost more but it would eliminate a lot of potential problems with someone that might not be as experienced.  I am in Colorado, United States and I lucked out with mine.  My husband works for  a small company so the company does not have to carry employee insurance.  I do not have a job right now due to my inability to walk around for more than a few minutes, unless it was on soft ground and I could take a lot of breaks....anyway we have a program, started by Dr's called operation walk.  Once a year a couple Dr's give their services for free, the medicine is donated, the knee is also donated.  I stumbled across this and got my entire procedure done without cost due the these fantastic humanitarians!  My knee was so bad I was one selected!!!  I got one of the top Dr's.  Anyhow, even with vehicles I would pay more to make sure the work is done the way it should be.
