Does anyone know if corrective surgery for prolapse is always done using mesh?

In the past year have read numerous stories in Scottish newspapers about people suffering dreadful problems caused by the mesh used in correcting genital urinary prolapses. Pretty sure I need this surgery but frightened to go to the doctor in case I end up with even more problems.

i had an anterior prolapse repair which is the repair of the front vagina wall and also a bladder repair which is called a TVT repair 9 weeks ago. They did not use mesh of any kind in my surgery and I live in scotland. Both procedures have been a success.

I live in Scotland and had also been worried by this. I asked the gynae about it before my posterior repair and tvt. He said the problems had been with large pieces of mesh, not the narrow tape used in tvt. Mesh is more commonly used for repeat surgeries.I'm now 4 weeks post op. Tvt seems to be a complete success and posterior repair is holding, although still uncomfortable, especially when walking. I'm still not sure how much discomfort is normal.

I put the operation off myself for 2 years due to time needed off work - decided to wait until I was retired. Once I saw the consultant again, the operation was done in 12 weeks.

as i still havent had a diagnosis that this is my problem,i havent done any research as yet to my repair.
my worst symptom at the moment is the agony of penetrative sex.
one of my tests showed a ligament around my womb being'irregular'.
i still havent found anyone to read the CD that come with the MRI test results showing only calcified fibroids.that was dismissed as being normal.
i often wonder if i would have been sorted by now if i lived in britain.i,ve lived in mananaland for 10 years.
is the mesh put in vaginally i wonder.
