Does anyone out there have the fluid in their ear/s crystallised

I have had vertigo and Really bad in-balance  now for 10 years, the neurologist did the relevant test.,thankfully it was nothing sinister..he said it was probably my inner ear  that  had crystallised...and if would just correct itself..mm..now 10 years later I'm on a walker and or a walking stick for it..depending on where I go.....but I am still waiting..fir it to right itself..mmm.

I have only just wondered as a Fibromyalgia sufferer and also Sjorgrens if my ear fluids have dried up because on the SS. I never have wax in one ear and it gets very swollen on that side of my face and neck..it flares up from time to time, but the vertigo etc is constant..24/7. Grrrrrr.  I would really appreciate hearing from anyone if they also  have this or anything like it..I am going to the my local doc after Christmas, just ask the question..he probably won't have the answer though...they never do..that's why these blogs are sooooo great..thank you..and Merry Christmas to you all..peas be with you...:-) xx

I have suspected Sjögren's and do suffer from vertigo from time to time it does correct itself and it's generally when I have any sort of swelling around that area, I'm not even sure it's related but did come along around the time my thyroid packed in I would ask to see a ear nose and throat specialist to start with, also try an anti inflammatory while your waiting for that appointment see if it makes a difference maybe some enhaleing some steam good luck!

I've no explanation for the vertigo but have you had the swelling you get checked? It sounds as though it could be your salivary gland., especially if it is extremely painful.

    Hi Christine,

I dont know if this will help you but there is something called the Epley manouevre which is supposed to help crystals in the ear. The dr moves your head in certain ways and ive heard it works well.

Also my mother in law had terribe vertigo, she was on anti sick meds from the dr and couldnt leave the house some days. Id read somehwere that ginger helped and I happened to have some ginger capsules which i gave her. Within days she felt much better and she went and bought her own supply. i dont think she has suffered since either. Ginger can interfere with any blood thinners so check with dr if you are on anything like that. I dont know how or why it works and the capsules i gave her were liquid gel ginger extract capsules and i think 100mg was the dose.

I hope either of these things proves helpful. Have a merry xmas too.

Thanks for all your replies I really appreciate them, I've had a scans years ago and seen an ENT specialist, who did many tests-.,all clear, there is no blockage, no meds work at all..I guess I was hoping it was from the  Sjorens Syndrome...I guess we just live in hope of a NANE for  it, somehow it makes us feel better..thanks everyone heaps, all your comments are valued..:-) xx

Hi Christine, I also have the combination of Sjogren's and vertigo but I've never thought they were connected in my case. I've had vertigo on and off since I was a child but the Sjogren's only started around age 50 (and didn't get diagnosed till 10 years later, which I know is about par for the course!) My worst-ever period of vertigo was around the age of 40. It lasted more than a year, during which time I had a few nasty falls in the street, as it used to hit me out of the blue. Fortunately, it's not nearly as bad now.

Interesting to hear this, though. My Sjogren's has been in remission for five or six years, but I've started getting eye problems again this year, and woke with stiff, painful fingers this morning for the first time in years... and I've had mild vertigo for the last couple of weeks! So maybe there is a connection after all.

As a former nurse, specialised in neuro, I know that not all vertigo is down to inner ear problems. It can also be caused by circulation problems to the cerebellum - the bit of the brain right at the base, just above the spinal cord. That's one of the reasons elderly people are prone to falls. I've always suspected that my attacks of vertigo are caused - or at least made worse - by tension. I've been going through a very stressful time in the last six months, but it's finally starting to lift now, which is often the time when stress symptoms kick in. I'm convinced I cause the symptoms by clenching my jaw when I'm tense, which would be quite effective in reducing the circulation to the base of the brain. Whenever I think about it, I try to come back into the present and make a conscious effort to relax my jaw muscles. It doesn't have an immediate effect, but I do believe it improves the vertigo over time.

Hope you find something that helps.

Perhaps ginger works for some peoples vertigo as it increases circulation due to a mild blood thinning effect?? All i know is ive tried various supplements over the years to help me feel better, none of which seem to have worked for me (hence why i had lots left) so im a tad sceptical but it definitely worked for mother in law.

That's a shame, I was hoping it might something you hadn't tried. Have you looked into Vestibular rehabilitation? They give you exercises to do to try and get ur brain rebalanced to movement I think. Also there is meiners disease. I really think u should try ent again for some sort of treatment. Does it get better when you have had antibiotics for anything else? My mum gets vertigo when she has any infection, just recently she had a uti and vertigo with it. Low sodium diet says it can help. I really hope you find something to help soon. Xx

Yes, I was given thise exercise I have been doing them on and off for a while to no avail, I was very disciplined doing them the first year, but there was no improvement at all. The ENT said it definitely wasn't Miniers disease, my family doc even tried me of meds for that too..it doesn't matter if I have infection and are antibiotics either...do sound like a negative one, but I trulyI I'm not, just that I've had this 24/7 for over 11 years now and was looking at why, other than what the Nuro told me about crystallised fluids in the inner ear..in the hope it might be from the Sjorens Syndrone, well I've tried..and it doesn't seem to be...many people get vertigo/inbalance but only for a short

while..like getting up too quickly to maybe having it for a year, really appreciate you thoughts Charlotte, have a lovely Christmastime as we all celebrate the real meaning for the season..

Hi Christine, you dont sound negative at all, i can totally understand that youve tried everything in that amount of time and how frustrating it must be. Dr's only seem to have answers when things follow the text book exactly and anything past that they have no idea. Im sorry I cant be of any help, the only other thing i can think of is allergies or fungal infections but im sure youve been checked for all.

Have a lovely Xmas too, i hope for christmas santa brings you a cure

Thanks Charlotte, totally agree with you about the textbooks etc..I ended up seeing a consultant to be diagnosed for the Fibro, he is a consultant for diagnosing..out of the box issues...at least I did get a diagnoses for the Fibro..jut this ear thing, was just wondering if it just could be Sjorens-which I was diagnosed for years before the Fibro, since then I have come across many people who have both..However,I am going to talk to my local dr about issues in the middle ear that I have just found out about on this blog..how awesome is this..thanks again Charlotte..:-) xxx
