Does anyone taking Orlistat have an underactive Thyroid?

Hi I have been taking Orlistat for a month now (this is my second time) I have just been to my GP to be weighed and Ive lost 4kg which to be honest I was dissapointed with I thought I had lost more. The GP has booked me in for a blood test in a weeks time to see if the Orlistat is affecting my medication (Levothyroxine) and if so she wont prescibe me any more Orlistat. I am desperate to lose weight I currently weigh 14st 9lb and would be happy for now to get to 13st, my bmi is 31.1.

I stagger my medication so fingers crossed they dont counteract each other.

Does anyone else have my problem and have you had a bad result??

I don't have an under active thyroid but 4kg in your first month is really good considering! Don't get disheartened.. In my first month I lost 5kg so your not that far off! Keep at it well Done

    Hi

I was put on orlistat about 6 months ago as my weight was getting me down after being diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I was about 11lb over the first month and was pleased with this . Unfortunatly I also had been diagnosed with low vitamin b12 and low vitamin d . My bloods were taken and showed the orlistat hadn't had an effect on my thyroxine but did have an effect on the vitamin d that was being absorbed so my doctor wouldn't prescribe it again. My weight has steadied but I havnt managed to loose much without the help of orlistat.

I am keeping my fingers crossed it hasnt affected my thyroid I have been staggering my tablets trying to take them 4 hours apart. I have been on Orlistat 3 years ago but never had my thyroid checked while I was taking them then so not sure what the results will be now. My GP asked if I had any symptoms with my thyoid which I havnt so Im hoping it will be ok. The Orlistat worked for me last time but I gained the weight again ovet the last 3 years.

I will post the results after my blood test neutral

Hi, I have got an underactive thyroid and I now losing weight is slow, but keep going. I have just lost my 1st stone only 8 more to go. I find that if you make every 7lbs an achievement it is more manageable than thinking of all the weight in one go that you need to lose. I have blood tests every 6 month to check the thyroid and if the medication needs changing then the doctor will change it they have never said they would take me off the orlistat.

Hi delia if you dont mind me asking how long did it take you to lose a stone and did you lose it all while taking Orlistat??

My GP doesnt seem to know too much about Orlistat in fact when I asked to go back on it she had to look it up and she seems reluctant to prescribe it.

Im having my bloods taken for my thyroid on monday so fingers crossed the Orlistat wont have affected it.

I have 4 stone to lose and Im determined to make the most of the Orlistat.

GREAT my bloods result came back normal so staggering the tablets has worked. I have an appointment with my GP next week so I can get another prescription for Orlistat. So anyone out there worried about taking Thyroxine & Orlistat dont worry (like I did) as long as you take your tablets 4 hours apart you will be fine.
