Does Diverticulitis pain come and go?

Posted , 9 users are following.

Went to my Dr with acute pain in my lower left abdomine and was diagnosed with Diverticulitis. I've finished my meds but I am finding that the pain comes and goes usually either before or after a BM. Is this common?

Try not to force. You may need to take a stool softener or Miralax until you are regulated. Also remember it takes time to heal so try to relax.

Good advice Madeline. It does seem overwhelming with so much contradicting information out there.

I had had it for 6 years and was only recently given a diagnosis .The pain does come and go. I have been suffering constantly for the last 3weeks. I have the pain on the top side of my stomach, apparently it can be anywhere around the abdomen.

That's a long time to be in pain. Hope you are finding ways to cope.

Hi Madeline. I have just phoned the hospital to bring my appointment forward as I was not due to have one until February next year. I try to keep my mind occupied, but sometimes I feel so exhausted due to the pain I have to go to bed for a couple of hours. Do you feel like this?

Hi Susan - do you find you have any variation in pain depending on how full your bladder is? I get this and my Doc and I are  trying to convince ourselves its just the DD that is causing this...

I did early on but not now. There is a difference. Keep positive and busy. I know it's hard but try.😍

      Hi James.

My pain comes on in degrees, Its like on a scale of 1-10. It's about 8 at the moment. I don,t have any problem with my bladder when my stomach hurts. Sounds as if you need to see a Eurologist that specialise in this area of the body.

Yes, I have that pain also and was wondering if anyone else did. Mine is intense and in waves for 2 hours or so. Some days no pain at all. Diagnosed with D 3 weeks ago.

I was recently diagnosed with Acute Diverticulitis two days ago. The pain i was having would come in waves and last up to 30 minutes. The pain would be anywhere from below my naval back to my left side and radiate to the back. As i was diagnosed two years ago with a kidney stone, i assumed the pain was associated with that. The symptoms were almost identical. So, after 4 months this is the diagnosis. I've been on Ciprofloxacin and Metronidazole for two days and actually feel a little relief. This forum is very helpful. Good luck to everyone here!

My pain is similar to yours.  I've had many flare ups and the more I have the more my back hurts.  You are on the right antibiotic. I have tried others only to get the infection back with vengeance. Stay on a light diet with soft foods for a few days. It will take time for you to heal. Good Luck.
