As I understand it prostatitis is basicly a urinary infection.  Women get these urinary tract infections more often than men do; but in men it usually infects mainly the prostate.  I had one several months ago and the Dr. gave me Sulfameth.  When that didn't clear it he gave me a round of Cipro.  I could tell that the first round didn't work because of the color and odor although it WAS kind of vague.

But to answer your question, flomax may help in that it might help your urine flow after a few days which might help with your UI.  But prostatitis has to be, at least initially, treated with antibiotics.

Depends what you mean by serious side effects. If really unbearable, stop. If temperorary discomfort, continue. Above all, go back to the Urologist and tell him. He may be able to prescribe something else instead or in addition. This needs to be a co-operative process, not a rebellious one!

Good morning.  Why is he giving you Flomax it's to relax your bladder and help you pee. Like keith said it is a infection and you need some antibiotics.  I took Flomax for a few weeks.  Did not like the dry orgasms. Go back and get something else  Take care  Ken
