Does get worse before gets better?

Been on 50mg of sertraline for a week started on 25then gradually increased over a week for anxiety & intrusive thoughts due to zopiclone withdrawal. Previously on very low dose citalopram for couple months had to stop as made hair fall out and dint help at all. Just seem to be feeling a lot worse is this normal to start with , few days ago felt really low and hopeless but lifted next day. Have read can make you feel worse at first?

Yes, it absolutely does make you feel worse before it makes you feel better, unfortunately, it is also slow-acting so you have to give it time. 50 mg is still a low dose so you may want to speak with your doctor about increasing (gradually). Try to hang in there, as it will work!

I don't want to increase dose as hoping to come off it next year. Having to stop zopiclone has caused this and apparently takes 12 plus months to recover, as I stopped in January hoping symptoms will improve next year, so hoping sertraline will ease symptoms until I'm fully recovered from the awful zopiclone! Good to know it's normal to feel like this probably having to switch meds hasn't helped either!
