I hate shots as well!! Hate them. Just relax your arm and don't look when they put the needle in. The more you relax your arm the easier and less painful it will be.

If you want to imagine anything, imagine feeling really relaxed and glad that you did it 30 minutes after it is all over. Alter your focus to the positive and visualise a happy ending.

Hi, Felicia. I must have had blood taken at least a hundred times in my life. Sometimes you don't feel anything and sometimes you feel a scratch which is over in a second.

    What's a shot ?

After having several blood tests over the last couple of years I am less anxious about them now, they are not painful, if you look away it is often over and done with before you realise, the nurse has done hundreds before so it is done quickly. Although it still makes me feel a bit uneasy I can now even watch it being done.

I had my bloods done last Wednesday and I promise you it will hurt more taking the medical tape off that they use to hold the cotton ball over your needle mark than the injection itself. But then I do have rather hairy arms 😀

As everyone else has said, look away, but ask them to tell you when you will feel the scratch. Also i always request the smallest needle... I didn't even know there was different sizes until a nurse told me once and she said you can request it every time if you feel better about them using it.

Ask them to put on the numbing cream on your skin first they used to do this for my daughter when she was little. You wont feel anything that way.
