Does it really get better?

I'm new here but have been reading everybody's experiences for awhile. I am almost 48 and have been having perimenopause symptoms for 5 years now (pretty much every symptom on the list) To add to that I also have Hashimoto's and POTS which are both terrible alone, and that much worse when you add peri symptoms to the mix. I am wondering if things really get better over time? I see a lot of stories on here where people are just as bad post-menopause. This has pretty much ruined my life. I am almost always at home because I feel so sick. I literally don't remember what it feels like to feel good.I quit driving because of the dizziness and drunk feelings. This all started when my daughter was 9. It's been so long she doesn't even remember a time when her mom hasn't been sick. Doctor's are completely clueless. I had doctor after doctor tell me everything is in my head. Funny they would think that I went 40+ years with no medical problems to just start making up problems for the fun of it in my 40s. Starting to lose hope that things will improve over time, because for me things have just gotten worse over time.

Hi shan, I feel your pain... I also have hashimotos i believe its worse because of the changes in hormones it all just feels so awful, and all we can do is push on thru daily..I am dizzy more often than not, I f I go to grocery store I wouldn't dare walk thru without holding on to shopping cart.. I have no idea if this all gets better I sure hope so.. Ive been dealing with this for years now,, and don't have any idea where I'm at in this because I had hysterectomy years ago , so nothing to go by but symptoms which make it very hard mentally not knowing when the end is without periods.. Its a daily to say the least.. Have you changed anything in your diet or given anything up to try and ease any of your symptoms of peri menopause or hashimotos? If so does any of the changes help?

I'm sorry you also have Hashimotos. I wouldn't wish it on anybody. I have gone gluten free which seems to help with headaches . I also eat organic.

I am also gluten free .. For years now . it helps a lot.. Do you take the thyroid medicine for your hashimotos? If so does it help ? Ive tried it and can't seem to get the right dosage and feel worse on it giving up everytime I try it.. Turning to diet only for it, which helps but again still suffering with it.. Menopause certainly makes all of it so much worse!

I've been on Levothyroxine since I was 27. Hypothyroid runs in all of the women in my family . I was diagnosed with Hashimotos years later in my late 30s. I do well on the levothyroxine. Have you tried natural dessicated thyroid meds? Some people do better on it. I couldn't do without the meds. One endocrinologist said my thyroid looks like swiss cheese from all the damage.

Oh wow swiss cheese? Sounds awful..my antibodies were 48, 000 just really really high.. No I haven't tried the natural thyroid meds o have heard of them..I may just try the levothyroxine at its lowest dosage and see how I do with that., I'm always such a big chicken for fear I will feel worse., as if that's possible..take care hope you feel better ..

I am a total newby and came here to ask the same thing. I've been dealing with this insanity for a month, so I couldn't imagine years. I too have Hashimotos and while I don't have POTS I have some symptoms of autonomic imbalance (my daughter has POTS, so I know it well). I'd almost say "let's be besties" but at this point I can barely function around my daughter and husband, I can't even imagine trying to hold up a friendship. I've even been avoiding extended family.

I am so sorry to "meet" you here. All I can say is that with Hashimotos, diet does help. But obviously for me it wasn't enough to stop my boat from being rocked.

Hi poelarity. Insanity is a great word for all of this.. Having hashimotos does indeed make this change much worse.. I just wanted to jump in and ask what kind of diet df you follow do you follow with the hashimotos? I do gluten free like shan does., also low histimine for the most part., do you take any of the thyroid medicine for your hashimotosIf so does it help, and does it make you worse before better feeling to get to the right dosage.. I never seem to be able to get to the right dosage before giving up and just following the diet only.,which does help.. But like you say not enough from rocking the boat for sure..I also have rheumatoid arthritis diagnosed during this transition., so pretty sure hormones made this so much worse well.. Do you have any other auto immune diseases ?

I am sorry you are in this boat too. It is truly awful! I wasn't diagnosed with POTS until my mid 40's so I really feel for your daughter having this.
