Hi C7,
Mono is such a dreadful virus to go through, I really do empathise having went through a tough time with the virus many years ago. I just want to reassure and encourage you that you will get through this and it is unfortunately quite normal to be struggling still at the 5-6 month mark - I was too but please be assured that things do change, my experience was that the first 6 months were BY FAR the worst, and at about 10 months I really started to feel a major change and start to feel like a real breakthrough in my recovery took hold, thanks to God only. Of course I'm not saying it will be as long for you, everyone is different, but just want you to know what you are going through is very normal with mono and it is equally very normal to go on and make a full recovery after that!
Also just want to if I am able to help put your mind at rest in terms of being concerned about autoimmune or other effects of the virus afterwards. One thing to consider is that they say 90%+ of the western world gets infected with EBV, the main virus which causes mono, at some point in their lives. Many get it as babies or children when the full effects of the virus are not as awful as they are as an adult. But the vast vast vast majority of these people recover and live full and healthy lives and don't suffer any other conditions as a result of having been infected - something positive to keep in mind!
Truly the vast majority of people that go through mono can go through an awful time with it like you have been C7, but absolutely there is FULL recovery beyond this, it can take a bit of time to get back to full strength and recovery but it does happen and the vast vast majority of people live full and healthy lives even after going through a tough time with this virus. And that's coming from me as someone who struggled badly with the virus at the time and thanks to God only recovered and have been generally healthy since, again all down to God's mercy and goodness.
And I believe you will be free of this and well again too with some time C7 - hang in there and absolutely there is no need to fear or worry about about any future conditions beyond mono - keep focussing on one day at a time and remember you will be free of this thing with time, this is the worst phase you are going through right now and remember God is good and He is the great healer! Message any time and thinking about you at this time.
