Does MS cause swollen neck and tight arms? And why my medication doesn't help?

Hello, I have been taking prednisolone as prescribed by my neurologist doctor for two months already, but still some of the symptoms - tight left arm, two numb legs and swollen neck - have not been alleviated.

Also, my left shoulder is painful 24/7. I think this is connected to my tight left arm.

I would like to ask if you guys, who have MS, are experiencing what I have described above. I need advice. Thanks!

Hi Wilbur, I HD a quick read about prednisolone, having never taken it, myself (I was diagnosed with MS, in 2004). What I just read suggests that prednisolone is given to reduce the effect of a relapse, when MS does damage. It won't, necessarily, stop symptoms that you're experiencing. Once damage has been done to the central nervous system, by MS, there isn't, currently, a way to fix this.

With regards to the symptoms you're experiencing, tightening of muscles and numbness are definitely very common thing, I've never heard of anyone having a swollen neck, though, however, that's no guarantee that it isn't related. I'd ask your doctor, just to be careful.

Your shoulder pain could easily be a symptom, as well. Try talking to your doctor about treating pain, there are plenty of ways to treat this: neuro pain meds, general ones, muscle pain ones. These can be taken in combination, when necessary. Remember, if any don't work, as expected, talk to your doctor about alternatives. It can take time to find a regime that works, for each individual.

Have you had an MRI of the brain or spine to see if there are lesions?  If this is affecting your neck and shoulders I would start there
