Does physio ever work - Weber A fracture

Hi all.
Two years ago I suffered a Weber type a fracture on my left ankle, it all seemed to heal up properly at the time after wearing an aircast boot for a couple of months. However I have had ongoing pain ever since and was told it would just go away. Two years on however the ankle is very weak, feels unstable, I have pain going from my left materal mallelous all the way up my left side of the leg to the knee and it sprains alot randomly. Currently I wear a Neo G brace and luckily don't have a job where I need to stand up alot.
Upon X-Ray they said it look normal about a month ago with some scarring etc and prescribed a round of physio, my experience with physio isn't great. No one seems to know the issue currently and I was told if physio doesn't work I will need surgery, which worries me alot.
Has anyone had this type of fracture and had positive experience with physio, or similar injuries with good physio outcome? I start my first bout of physio in 2 weeks so I will let you know how it goes!

I can only comment on my own experience. My fracture happened 31 dec last year, I started physio early Feb. As I understand it, if you don't do physio (whether exercises on your own or with a professional) you are more likely to experience a loss of ROM and arthritis/pain. I asked about using a brace for extra support/comfort and was discouraged as physio said ankle needs to work to recover strength and using a brace/support too long will delay/prevent full recovery. Was also told it is important to push yourself with exercises, even if it hurts. Not to point of extreme hurt but certainly to point of discomfort. Hope things work out for you.

My concern now is it's to far gone and it will only get worse, how long does physio last and how do they determine if things are getting better?
