Does Pregabalin/Lyrica make you gain weight?

I've started taking them today and I feel weird and spaced out... I've been reading up on the effects and see that it can cause live and kidney damage and weight gain so now I feel scared and apprehensive...

    Hi Samantha,

Yes, you noted just some of the side effects and there are many more. Brain fog, extreme fatigue, sleep disruption, memory lapses and inability to find words - the list goes on. I have been on this drug for 15 months and have gained 45lbs - it tricks the brain to tell you you are hungry all the time and so tend to eat more. At present I am slowly decreasing the dose I take daily determined to get off completely. What dose have you been put on and for what reason? As it is only day One, I seriously advise you NOT to take them as the brain becomes dependent very quickly and you are hooked before you know it. Withdrawals coming off Pregabalin are a nightmare as I am discovering. You have a chance to refuse this toxic drug - I know I would if I had the information I now do before ever starting on them. But, that is up to you of course. I hope you make the right decision for yourself and I wish you well.

Hi Samantha. I've been on 600mg for anxiety for nearly 2 years now and for me personally it has been a life saver. I appreciate not everyone finds this to be the case though.. we're all different. I had absolutely no quality of life before this, I couldnt even go to work

I also have other mental health problems, one of which causes chronic insomnia, and this med has actually helped me with sleep. I went from 2hrs to 6hrs. I'd forgotten what it felt like to actaully wake up and feel refreshed and not like a zombie smile My anxietys is now somewhat managable to which is amazing!

I havent had any weight gain at all, in fact I've lost a little weight but I'm confident thats due to my change in lifestyle, giving up heavy drinking and exercising.

Because of other meds that I'm on, I have to have blood tests every 6 weeks, and so far everythings been perfect except for my Vitamin D, but thats due to me never being outside as I cant stand sunlight.

I started on 50mg a day, and for the first week after each increase I'd feel a little spaced out. But after around 7 days it settled and I was back to normal.

I had a period when I ran out of my meds about 3 months ago, as I was unable to get them (long story), which meant I had a sudden withdrawal from everything! It was like having a really bad flu, combined with glandular feever. I wouldn't say it was the worse I've every felt in my life though, in terms of feeling unwell. The withdrawl passed after about 3 weeks though, with the first 10 days being the most intense.

I always research meds before deciding if I'm willing to try them, and what I value most is feeback from others who are actually taking it. I refuse to just go along with what these Drs think is best based on backhanders from pharmaceutical companies.. I'd encourage you to do the same.

I hope this med helps you, and if not.. please dont give up trying to find other solutions!

I have to agree with everybody on this board including inmate 88 I've been on and off this stuff for a few years with fibromyalgia and myelopathy never been able to stay on it long term (Thenk God !) because of the side effects sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but when does relieve pain it is fantastic and the deep sleep! for a few days and then all of a sudden the side effects kick in and you feel like you're suddenly not thinking straight and you're no longer sure whether the medication is working or not anymore. it.

My advice if you're going to take it make sure you've explored all other treatment options first and never stay on it too long whether it works or not.
