Does sleep apnea show up on a 24 hour heart monitor?

I am pretty sure my husband has sleep apnea but he is totally in denial. He recently had a TIA and part of the diagnosis was wearing a 24 hour heart monitor. I was wondering if the results from that would show up any sleep apnea?

    Hello,

My dad was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. He was always feeling tired all the time and my mum said she had to keep nudging him in the night as he'd seem to stop breathing. He had a monitor strapped to him for a one night sleep study which monitors everything. The results from the sleep study confirmed that he has sleep apnia. Hope this helps!

The diagnosis can be sought via your gp. Gp can refer you to a sleep clinic who can then access your

husbands sleep pattern and quality. Hope this helps x

I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea last year. The effect of this being an undiagnosed condition meant that my blood pressure had risen subsatntially and was at 190/100 when my osteopath took it before I was diagnosed. I also had cardiac arrythmia (missing heartbeats). I was put onto blood pressure reducing medication but since being treated for my sleep apnoea with a CPAP machine my blood pressure as of last reading was 122/77 and I no longer need to take the blood pressure pills. Not bad for a 58 year old smoker! I had a 24 hour monitor fitted too but this will not show anything other than the result of sleep apnoea. i.e. heart rythym. A TIA will result from surges in blood pressure which happens overenight when breathing stops. I would urge your husband to go to the doctor and insist on being referred to a sleep clinic (I had to see six doctors at my local prctice before I was reffered, telling them that the cause of my health problems was sleep apnoea!). Untreated, sleep apnoea will impair your husbands health and can lead to heart attack, diabetes and stroke. Your husband's denial will kill him, do something now!
