Does stress affect Polymyalgia?

i have Depo Medrone injections rather than taking pred as I am unable to tolerate this. Over the past two and a half years I have managed to drop right down to the equivalent of 1 mg a day. I have recently been fast tracked to the breast cancer clinic at our local hospital and things aren’t looking too good. I’ve have noticed that the muscles in my legs are now so bad I can hardly walk. Unfortunately unlike Pred, I can’t tweak my dose and have to wait for my 3 weekly injection. I had my usual dose 5 days ago and it has done nothing. Unfortunately the nurse who administers it cannot up the dose or frequency without my GP’s say so. I’m wondering if it could be something else as my arms don’t ache. Only my thighs and it gets progressively worse during the day. Any advice as to whether this could be a stress induced flare up.

I am sorry to read that you have the stress which you are undergoing at present, Hilary. Stress does affect PMR and one of the questions my GP asked when he diagnosed PMR was whether I was experiencing stress. Can you make an urgent appointment with your GP to ascertain whether they can offer something to ease the pain?

Thank you. I suspected it was the stress. I’ve managed to get an appointment tomorrow. It’s such a nuisance being reliant on injections.

it must be difficult having to rely on injections as it doesn't allow for any extra pain which oral medication can cover. I hope your GP can advise and offer some medication. Best wishes for your breast clinic appointment and easing of your pain

I wouldn't be surprised if it is the stress, I assume you mean the leg problems are PMR in nature?

I'm sorry - all the best. We've just finished 8 weeks of radiotherapy for my husband. Seems very unfair for you after all you went through with PMR/GCA. keep in touch and tell us how you get on.

Life is a b***h. I had almost got off steroids and now breast surgery next week then radiotherapy and Chemo. We had booked a World Cruise in January to celebrate my end of steroids but that has had to be cancelled and hopefully my GP will agree a higher dose of Depo tomorrow and mote frequently. My husband is such a saint

Did you know that there are case reports associating BC and PMR?
