Does this happen to any of you ?

Using the DSNS method to reduce. Just dropped from 11.5 to 11 and stayed at 11 for a few extra day and was doing OK. Today I started the next phase of trying to drop to 10.5.

I took the 1 day new ( 10.5 ) this morning. By mid-day I noticed I am achier than before, along with feeling a bit anxious and feeling chilled with my body trembling a bit. I imagine this is exactly how an addict would feel when trying to stop a narcotic that they are addicted to. Thankfully, on day 2 tomorrow, I will be following up with 6 days old back at 11.

My question is does anyone else experiences this ?

Note: I am typically very sensitive to drugs and when starting anything new will take a pediatric dose.

Hi Scotth42, so far the reductions on the DSNS method have been very good. I have had a couple of minor flares, where I bumped up my dosage then after a bit continue my taper.

Good luck on the rest of your PMR journey. Think positive. ☺️

The reason I developed the extended version of the DSNS (starting with 6 days old dose) was because I always noticed the new dose quite markedly and having that every day with no respite was no fun. It takes at least 3 challenges of the new dose before my body accepts it is fine, it will be back to normal tomorrow. And I also notice at the end of the taper - I start to feel worse on the old dose day!

Eileen, I am so grateful for your tapering method! Just when I was starting to crave my old dose, along came a respite dose; and just like you, when I got to the end of the taper, the old dose made me feel worse and I was actually pleased to be taking the new dose. I'm now sticking at 9mg for a while before I attempt the next dose reduction.

Hi Claire JG, stabilize on a dosage before the next reduction is a good idea, I do that and Never reduce if I have any PMR pain. I also believe in keep active, today I went out a rode up and down the hills in mountain community for 24 miles, it is good to be back on the bicycle after two years off the bicycle with our friend PMR.

Staying active, positive with a smile. ☺️

That’s impressive! Skiing in the winter, cycling in the spring/summer. It’s great to hear you’ve been able to get back on your bicycle again. Keep up the exercise (and the positivity)! Good advice about waiting before I reduce my dose again. Thanks.

Yes Claire, I really try to keep active, started riding the bicycle years ago to help to stay in shape for skiing, then found out an hour or two on the bike after work really cleared the mind. Now in retirement just do it because I love it and have a group I sometimes ride with also. Great FUN! ☺️
