Does this sound familiar

I am writing on behalf of my partner. The reason for my writing is because my partner has been going extreme tiredness for the last 2 years and though out the 2 years new symptoms have been developing and are now intensifying. She is 20 years of age and it started when we began university, before we went she worked 5 days a week while being at collage. When she started university she hated it and went through a lot of emotional distress because of it. Around the same time she became ill with “flu”/ cold like symptoms. However, the tiredness did not go away but got worse. She goes to bed at night exhausted and wakes up just as tired as she was before.

Though the year she has developed other problems such as panic attacks, stomach problems (diarrheal and constipation), an intolerance to certain foods, some sore throats, muscle pain (in the form of back and leg pain, to the point of tears and not being able to walk) and bloating of the stomach.

We have gone to a number of doctors, had a lot of blood tests that show nothing and been told a lot of things like its depression or pots none leading to an answer. As the last years gone by more symptoms have come about and are getting worse. She is now running out of hope to getting better. After starting back at university for her last year, she feels she cannot carry on after 2 days due to the fatigue.

I was wondering if you could give us your opinion

Many thanks

Morning jkerr;  I am pleased that your girl-friend has someone who is supporting her so much through this terrible time (she is very lucky, as others do not get this support)......there are other conditions that I feel you need to look at (just not the CFS).....a referral to a Rhuematologist (and a Good one at that, who has an Open mind), could be your first point of call......even though ALL bloods and tests have come back  normal, this is the Norm for Fibro, and also for a Lot of people with Thyroid problems.....there is a book that I am reading called "Tears behind Closed Doors", that tells of many with Thyroid issues, that have been ignored (as their bloods say "within normal range", and then there is the Fibro, which affects many parts of our body, with pain (I describe mine like "burning" under the skin) as well as the cramps/spasms etc.....the sore throats etc and all these symptoms are indicative of both conditions......so your girl-friend does need to see a specialist who is prepared to go through both conditions and treat them (it does  Not harm us to be treated for Thyroid, as it would need a Very high dose of thyroxin to cause Thyroidtoxicosis)....and then there are the meds of Amitriptylline and Gabapentin, as well as the recommended meds for Fibro (Cymbalta and Lyrica, which many of us find are of No help and cause us more problems).......I agree with the reply of suggesting that your girl-friend asks for "a deferral" from he studies at this time, as she does need to get herself rested and as stress-free (if that is possible with what is happening to her) as possible...........concentrate on one thing at a time, and this time is her health........please try and get her to see a Rhuematologist or Endocrinologist, as these two specialists in their fields, should be able to get somewhere in gaining some help for her???...........feeling for you both.............Bron
