Does this sound like asthma?

Hi, so i'm 18 and i've never been diagnosed with asthma or any respiratory illness/dideas in the past. last night after a 10 mile cylce I started to wheeze when I exhaled deeply, now also when I inhale deeper than usual. This morning I woke with some chest tightening and also some tight feel in the neck./throat area.

Possibly also having palputations but I've just got off of the nhs helpline and that made me nervous incase it turned out to be something serious.

I know this will be irrelevant but i've always done strenous activities, weight lifting, olympic lifting, walking/hiking and long cycle routes..?

If anyone can help me with this I would be grateful, I'm going to ring my gp when they open in half an hour, but they are very unreliabe and do not seem to care what is wrong. My appointment with them could not be until tomorrow or later on in the week so im just covering all bases!

Thank you for reading!

    Well, i can't give a good answer i'm afraid.

But asthma can come along at any time (i believe)

For me, i had asthma as a baby grew out of it by age of 5. Less than a month ago i had another asthma attack. I've been fine since.

    It could be asthma.

But i wouldn't go fully by my word smile

Hope you feel better soon. Don't worry about it just relax and sit against a back of a chair & avoid laying down. (If its asthma laying down on your back can make it harder to breathe whereas sitting up makes it easier for your lungs to get oxygen in.)

    Hope this helps

You're right about developing asthma at any age!

Was 'just' a panic attack, turns out pretending you're not depressed and stressed doesn't make it go away! Just makes it come back with a vengence!

      Really appreciate the reply though!

      Have a wonderful day!

Hi Ellis, it might be but getting advice from a medical proffessional is really advisable. If you can't get in with GP, how about a walk in centre / minor injuries? If you have breathing issues then you should be seen today. I developed asthma as an adult - no sign as a child. Hope you get some help today - let us know how you get on :-)

Thank you amanda, thats exactly what I did, and was admitted into hospital because none of the people I saw knew how to diagnose a panick attack, making me think I had some lung or heart issues!

I really appreciate the help though!

Thank you again and good day to you!

    1) Get a new GP:  Doesnt sound like asthma, do you think you are getting flu ? DO NOT HAVE any vaccines. Dont lay down flat, dont wave your arms around, take it easy till you get to the doctor  good luck -- jay

Thankyou for the help jay, I was sent to the hospital after having a very bad anxiety attack, never had one before and it made me feel like I was having a heart attack, I think my gp thought a heart attack   and asthma are similiar! sad

The team that helped me calm down and diagnosed me at the hospital checked all my vitals and said my peak flow and ocygen levels are great, are athlete level stats and trust me i'm no athlete.

Was some reassurance, just means I've not got to ehad to another forum page!

Thankyou for the asnwer though! appreciate it

      good day
