Does this sound like IBS?

Hi. My partner has been diagnosed with IBS but we and several other doctors aren't so sure. 5 years ago he started to get a pain across the top of his stomach which turns into severe pain that moves around to the left side of his back. The pain is constantly there but comes in waves which get worse (almost like contractions). Each time he has this pain it is so severe that he has to go to hospital and only morphine will make the pain go away. When he has the pain he has an urge to go to the toilet but is normally very regular and goes every day. The pain can come every week then stop for months then back to every week again, sometimes only days apart and each time a hospital visit is needed. He's been checked for everything and recently been told he has gall stones but they are not causing any problems after regular scans. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for your help

listen, I am not a doctor.  not trying to be one either.  change his eating habits.  he must pay attention to what his body is telling him.  his body is broke now just fix it.  change what he eats and how his food is prepared.  think outside  the box and take a good look of his daily intake.  people in the islands don't eat like people in this country and they have less probelms then we could amagine.  they live longer, eat better, and look better. not to mention, less medication if any at all.  his body is talking to him so you all need to pay close attention and make the necessary changes now rather than later.  and if he has gall stones, then take care of the problem.  again, change his diet.  he eating must change.  you just don't get gall stones from nothing.  food has everything to do with it.  my pleasure to chat with you.

Thanks for your reply. We have tried changing his diet but sadly this did not help. He has a relatively healthy diet anyway but a couple of things needed  changing but these episodes don't seem to be controlled by food. As for the gall stones we've been told he's probably had them years. Yes probably from when he was younger and had a bad diet. The doctor has no intention of dealing with the gall stones as they aren't causing a problem at the moment however if that changes they would obviously reconsider.

then something is wrong.  I just recently had a CT scan with contrast in order for them to tell me what my problem was.  I had to face facts, I was out of my 4-1/2 year remission.  All due to ANTIBIOTICS!!!!!!!!!  You listening people........I tell you the truth, I could have done without the antibiotics.  I should have followed by guts and not taken them.  Well, now I'm back on the road to recovery myself and its hard work.  But, I'm desperte not to have to deal with this.  I've made new changes and learned more important information to help myself.  I refuse to take steroids!!!!!! Not gonna do it, just not gonna do it.  WOW, that phase sounds so familiar.  I think it came from a Bush.  LOL. lol.  Laugh people......it helps.  Suse29, does your husband workout?  if not, he needs to.  its part of staying well for us.  Okay, I need to call this day George and go to sleep.  You all take care, stay well.  Peace out!

There is almost always  a connection with bacteria in the gut it is considered to be a a clue with virtually a everything in all illness. Especially with the pain u describe sounds much like IBS.fods u eat starts in the stomach thru the intestines with a great amount of pain. Muscle relaxers for gut pain can help. More help is thru diet elimination. By finding the foods that cause the pain.Gut bacteria has a balance, there r many different types it help to study up on them & learn which foods kill the good bacteria. If the gut bacteria becomes unbalanced then IBS is a common . Probiotics  helps balance gut bacteria is usually the best help. Other than knowing what foods trigger a IBS FLAR. Bad bacteria can cause over whelming and severe IBS cramps. It is like air ang gas gurgling about the got.

TALING ZANTZC BEFORE U EAT HELPS AND STAYING AWAY FROM FRIED . GREASY FOODS. SUGARS, EGGS AND eating yogurt 2-3 times daily to get live good bacteria in the gut.

i had had it for yrs before there was a name for it. After having my gallbladder removed I had no enzimes to help break break down foods we eat. Some foods r very hard to break gown down & digest normally.

plz see your gastrointerologist  to help get u on the road to recovery. A food restrictions of fried foods & veggies like corn hard outer shell.. Lettuce, cabbage.. Preservatives and dyes in foods exacerbate the gut imbalance of good bacteria. I have not had a IBS attack in years. My secret is to eat live gut bacteria yogurt every day.after ten years and eliminating some foods while daily yogurt and no greasy foods my IBS  has been in remission.

PS while UR finding foods that exacerbate UR IBS while eating yogurt 2-3 times a day ...DONOT ear out. There r always food preservatives & chemicals u don't know about.

At home u can buy foods free of all those chemicals.pz see webmd for IBS SYMPTOMS & treatments.

    remember: yogurt.  Yogurt.  Yogurt !

    GOOD LUCK

With you saying the pain comes in waves, triggers sensation down below makes me wander if the link is the vagas nerve. Has there been any mention of hiatus hernia. HH might not have any symptoms most of the time. However a big meal, or gas forming meal or even wearing tighter clothing than normal could all cause added pressure in the stomach to press on the vagas nerve where it passes through the diaphragm. If there is signs of bloating then I would try the following. Take digestive enzymes. Eat little and often ie no big meals. Wear loose clothing. Avoid fatty food.

A sensation I feel when my hiatus hernia is playing up. It feels like a tight band where your diaphragm is located in chest in line with lower ribs.

This has never been suggested. I will do some research to see if this is a possibility. Thanks

This sounds very familiar to me I've had exactly the same problems with the same symptoms. They tell me also I've got IBS but I don't believe them either. Is your other half on any form of medication such things as heart tablets etc?

Hi. No he isn't on any medication other than mebevrine for the IBS.

Dear Suse, the exact same thing is happening to me and started in May last year. the gaps were months apart, and im now getting the pain about twice a month. The pain has been that severe its put me in the hospital too. One visit to the hospital they treated me for a kidney infection because of the pain my back, the next visit to the hospital i had blood tests (which were all clear) and they treated me for gastrointestinal inflammation and prescribed Lanzaprozole for 1 month. I did not have an episode on the treatment but did 6 weeks later. i have since been back to my doctor as i believe it to be gallstones, she disagrees, but says she will send me for a scan anyway, and prescribed the Lanzoprole again along with buscapam. That was on the 6th Aug and since then i have had 2 more crippling episodes. i believe food is playing a part but it cant be the sole reason. I write down everything i eat and note down the pain then compare what the trigger could be- but i cant tell. when i get the attack it is totally random, different times of the day/night, when ive eaten, when i havent eaten, i cant pin point it to any certain type of food. anyone listening when im having an attack would think im in labour! its excruitating and last for hours and sometimes i cant breath which then brings on a anxiety attack. no position is comfortable.. the tablets that the doctor has given me have done nothing as i have had 2 more episodes while taking them. someone mentioned diet on here and in particular yoghurt- so thats what im going to eat for the next week or so, see how i get on! anyway all the best, just wanted to let you know your husband is not alone.

Hi Leanne. That sounds exactly the same. He's been on all those tablets too but nothing stops it. He's just been prescribed oramorph to see if that helps but so far no luck. Yes I'm going to try him on the yoghurt too. Its so frustrating but I hope you get to the bottom of it soon too xx
