Does this sound like Scabies?

Hello. My ex partner was diagnosed with scabies last week and was told use some cream along with our son who didn't show any signs of having scabies although he was itching. The only contact I have is with my son who sleeps with me on a weekend when he stays at my house. Since last week and hearing about the scabies on my son's mum I have been petrified about catching them and I seem to be itching more. I have noticed a few red bumps around my thigh buttocks and side of my chest and they itch. These are just separate spots and not clusters of spots. Am I just getting paranoid?? Thanks.

I’m so sorry to say that it doesn’t seem as though your paranoid.

That’s how it started with me. Little bumps here and there that itches like crazy. Never a ton but enough to notice and it started in those places.

HOWEVER, go to a Dr to get a definite diagnosis. If you and your son shared a bed then they very easily could have been on the sheets.

I would definitely start by immediately cleaning your sheets in hot water and then drying them in high heat and ensure a minimum of 30 minutes of heat are used during the dry process to kill any mites or eggs.  Cleaning these daily will help stop the spread and the length of time you will have them.

If your son has them and you were in close contact with him no matter what you WILL need to be treated for them too and part of this process is the thorough cleaning of ALL sheets, towels, clothing in a daily basis.

I thoroughly vacuumed my couch and sprayed with Lysol. Then sprayed the interior of the vacuum as well.  Even if what you are experiencing now is not scabies your son was still in contact with you and by being in your bed you have been exposed to them.

I’m so sorry. This is all so new to me and I would never wish this feeling on anyone.  In one day the support and info I received here has put my mind to rest a bit.

Just start your decontamination process. Hopefully and thankfully you caught it early so you can action it early to limit your timeframe.

    Good luck!

YES. Get them early before they become entrenched (a two-year sufferer here). Get 5% permethrin cream and treat yourself twice or more by completely (that's completely completely) covering yourself. Do the head too. Do not use same bedding, clothes, towels, shoes etc for three days.... rotate three sets daily if you can (regardless of washing because regular washing does not kill all).

Covering hands with cream every night helps. DEET also works. Putting cream or DEET on every itch as it occurs helps.  Clove oil kills mites but not eggs. You need to make sure you kill the hatched eggs. Infrared sauna also helps. Natural remedies reduce but do not seem to eradicate.

    Good luck
