Does TIA leave after effects

Recently my father has numbness in left arm and left leg and couldnt stand or walk properly.

ambulance was called and spent night in hospital with tests to which they diagnosed a TIA. he still seems to be suffering intermittent weakness coming and going from the effected leg and doctor said at discharge this was ok.

my understanding is that the symptoms of the TIA should improve not keep coming and going. has anyone else had this intermittent behaviour or could this be something that requires another ambulance trip? after reading online that TIAs are warnings and they often lead often lead to a full stroke is freaking me out somewhat and dont want to overact but any advice would be very welcome.
