Does Your Depression and or Anxiety Ever Cause Issues With Your Memory??

when I’m depressed or anxious I notice my memory seems to suffer at times from it. I also started taking escitalopram, but just around 5 to 10 mg, however I feel like that may also affect memory.it’s not all the time.
It’s so frustrating because I know I most likely need to take the medication but if that’s the side effect, not sure I want to continue.
I would like to hear from anybody that has a similar issue. It’s so difficult being alone with nobody to talk to about it.
thanks!

hi jan, i know you say you can't cope without medication but are you sure? there's tonnes of medication out there, you don't have to have escitalopram ask for other types of medication. all medications have side effects and problems connected with them. i have decided never to have medication if i can avoid it and so far i have. i only take things if must and there's no way round it! i wish you luck ask what else you could have instead, there may be something better.

Hi, Jan! Look, I'm not a doctor, but I've heard from one that depression can cause memory loss. He explained to me that depression affects the hippocampus, the amygdala, and the prefrontal cortex, which are regions of the brain that are responsible for important functions such as memory processing, learning, concentration, and cognition. I myself have experienced memory loss due to a depressive condition, but I have never taken any type of medication, so I can't tell if the medication could also cause this problem. You should report this to your doctor to see if he can adjust the dosage of the medication.

often when stressed due to depression or anxiety our minds are expending so much energy simply trying to manage those feelings that other functions, like memory, suffer. I think this is normal.
