Doesn't dutasteride .5 mg work eventually, so why have an operation?

If dutasteride .5 mg really does shrink the prostate then why would one go to get an operation or at least buy time until the technology gets even better. The side effects are about 1 in 25, so I don't know if most of the people on here have tried it before they went and got a procedure?
Anyway I'm trying this dutasteride .5 mg regime to see if it will shrink the prostate. I don't like any of the procedures I hear about the only one is iTind, which is new and not offered everywhere.

What is your prostate size? The 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors may shrink prostate size only 25%. If you are not satisfied with the improvement on the symptoms after the medication, the next option will be surgery. By the way, why does your doctor prefer dutasteride to finasteride?

A couple things. Reported shrinkage of prostate is at best 30%. That's just not enough unless your prostate is 50g or less. Then there's the high incidence of depression. I know after taking it less than two weeks I felt like s**t. It resolved after discontinuing it. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S235228951930061X
